Versions of Characters

Ok so this is a 'what's your favourite' but it's a little different.

Choose your favourite character who has been played by multiple people. Choose and highlight your favourite and least favourite version of that character.

Joker; Cesaro Romaro, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill, etc.

Re: Versions of Characters

Sherlock Holmes: Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett, Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch, and almost too much others to list.

I love the famous detective. He's one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, but if I had to pick a favorite actor, I have to go with Jeremy Brett. He just captured the full essence of the character, the highs and the lows, the positives and the faults. When he was excited about working a case and on the move, he was excited and would practically hurl his body to the floor just to observe a clue. When he was depressed (either due to getting stuck on a case or not having one at all) he would be a sour and miserable person to be around. He perfectly captured the light and the dark of the character giving us the most fully realized version of Sherlock I've ever seen on screen. It also helps that the stories he acted out were adaptations of Conan Doyle's original work, giving us some of the best versions of the original classic stories in the process.

Least favorite version: That's hard to say because not many Holmes actors were bad. I was never a fan of the animated series "Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century" mainly because the sci-fi/futuristic setting, to me, took a lot of the charm out of it. Granted, placing Holmes in different time periods isn't unprecedented (Rathbone, Cumberbatch) but the Sci-Fi setting was too much for me.

Re: Versions of Characters

Eric Bana may be the worst actor ever.

In my head...

Angie Everhart is the film version of Jean Grey. She'd look perfect as Jean, but her nefarious side would really shine w/ Dark Phoenix (see: Bordello of Blood... and I realise the X-Men film didn't go there). Favourite: Catherine Disher. Least: Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner (tie)

Michael Wincott as Wolverine. Great character actor over a pretty boy. Classic brown and tan colourway, masked. Wincott is one of the greatest at playing villians. That brings an interesting edge to the role. If you're worried about the physique, his brother is Jeff Wincott. He'll be fine. Favourite: Cal Dodd. Least: Hugh Jackman
Spoiler for :

0.52-0.59 + 1.21-1.34. That voice
And I believe Eddie Murphy was going for the most f-bombs in under 2 minutes (20... in case you're keeping score at home). Who wrote this nonsense?

Lisa Blount as Rogue in an early/mid '90s Gambit film (opposite Kilmer). If you've seen Profit, you know she comes w/ the sass. I'd have her surrender the role to Estella Warren for the original film. Favourite: Lenore Zann. Least: Anna Paquin.
Spoiler for :

Lots of swearing today. And sorry about Richard Gere's "acting".

They're the three X-Men characters I care about, all were terribly miscast. My apologies for taking liberties w/ the original question.

Re: Versions of Characters

(I'm just gonna list them favourite to least favourite and only ones I've actually seen.)

Batman: Kevin Conroy, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, Adam West, Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, George Clooney
Joker: Mark Hamill, Cesar Romero, Troy Baker, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto
Superman: Christopher Reeve, George Reeves, Tom Welling, Kirk Alyn, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, Gerard Christopher, John Haymes Newton, Tyler Hoechlin

I'm going to have to come back to this thread though, there are some characters like Dracula who have so many portrayals I'm going to have to actually figure out who comes after Christopher Lee and in what order.

You put so much oil in this the US wants to invade the fucking plate! - Gordon Ramsay.
