Re: Shazam! (April 5, 2019)

It should and could have been a major hit, but I don't think it goes far enough. The "borrowing" from other movies is kind of blatant in some parts even though as a whole it is a fairly unique package. It does have all the wrappings of a classic.

The thing that'll keep it from becoming a classic though is that it's part of an over-saturated genre so it will stay popular largely within the demographic that likes Superhero movies. Not enough was done for it to appeal to those who don't already like superhero movies. While it does have mass appeal based on its themes, it's still stuck being a superhero movie in a way. It doesn't do enough to break into the wider demographic and the Box Office is representing that.

Re: Shazam! (April 5, 2019)

To be honest I expected the movie to be better. Captain Marvel or Shazam as he goes by nowadays, is easily one of my favorite superheroes and although they nailed some of the stuff(especially the step by step power learning by Billy) I feel like it could have been done better. The fight scenes were really lacking, there was far too much talking and Shazam should have epic brawl type fights breaking stuff(like his fight against Superman in the Justice League cartoon),maybe they are saving it for the Black Adam movie, no idea.
Spoiler for a spoiler:
The end scene with Superman was fuckin amazing though,I marked out as soon as I saw that logo.

All time favourites-Triple H(Bow down to the King),Y2J,Christian,SCSA,HBK,Benoit,Cena

Current Favourites-Becky Lynch,Miz,Seth Rollins,Alexa Bliss,AJ Styles,Kevin Owens,Dolph Ziggler

I miss Ruthless Aggresion

It was OK. Nothing special. Captain marvel was better tbh. The funniest bits were in the trailer. The villain in shazam is so one note and boring. I will say the Billy stuff was sad though and they got that right

Re: Shazam! (April 5, 2019)

I just got back from seeing it. I thought it was delightful. It kind of reminded me of Raimi Spider-Man with a hint of Reeve Superman thrown in with kind of an 80s kid movie flare.

And considering DC's track record for garbage lately, I'll take something that was fun and engaging.

Aquaman (outside of its visuals) and Captain Marvel left little to no impression on me, so it was nice to get another cape movie that had charm and heart to it.

So what's the consensus in here about how is the film doing in the box office?
