Searching: a mystery/thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I went into it not expecting much but it was fantastic, great twist and unique production and direction on this one, everything was from the viewpoint of a smart phone, computer or security camera.

Worth a watch!! Pretty good flick.

Imagine living in a world where this has a better surface area reputation over Alien3 & Ghosts of Mars.

What a joke.

Well, Riddick was the only aspect that wasn't garbage, so maybe his solo films beyond this can do better.

This fulfills my love for many things: director idiosyncrasies everywhere, secret rich societies that worship Satan/have orgies in the name of power, & neo-noir rabbit hole pursuits. Polanski packs all of this in here with some kind of kooky energy, there's a dryness to the film that's oodles of fun as Depp is a moral-free rare book swindler getting mixed up in Devilish darkness. This is released the same year as Eyes Wide Shut too, which makes this like it's jaunty relative that puts forth more of an ironic stamp & fantasy next to Kubrick's evil erotic conspiracy classic. So hell yeah - literally - I'm all about getting lost in this thick atmosphere. The years have been good to this.

Have always adored this offbeat hardboiled noir-Satanic horror dreamscape mood-piece film.

Excellent capsule review. Compels to look forward to revisiting it at some point between now and Halloween.

The very idea of living with a significant transformation is certainly something that resonates quite heavily, but I've never been very enamored with this execution. It's fine enough, yet my interest dips in and out. The foggy haze, werewolf lore, Wolf-head cane, and the dramatics of the literal cry-wolf scenario is apt, then there's chunks of it throughout that leave me cold. Happy-go-lucky Talbot is rather unbearable and forceful (it might be 1941, but not taking no for an answer isn't charming back and forth for a lead romance), then distraught, on the brink of insanity trying to figure out his new Lycan-torment Talbot makes it along the line of being generally interesting. My love for Dracula leads me to feel I'd be more on board for the remainder of Universal Monster films, then, in actuality, I'm frequently indifferent.

The Perfect Date

Full of cliches, predictable, cheesy. Yet I still enjoyed it. I really don't know why I enjoy moves like this, but I guess they just make me feel good. They're not trying to be anything else, and you know exactly what you're getting every single time. I will say I found the comedic moments in this film to be rather flat, there wasn't many moments where I really laughed or even chuckled. I mostly just smiled. Usually I'd laugh a bit more at romantic comedies, but this kind of missed the mark a lot. Still, I found it touching at parts, but I had a hard time finding the main character likeable. It's one of the weaker films of this type I've seen.

Re: The Last Movie You Watched Thread

The Abbott/Costello routine isn't my thing, although this sort of blended better than I would have thought. Took a little bit to get there, although once Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein's Monster are all out there and it's converging on a kooky island, then it was getting somewhere. Even in my coldest portions, I knew this was gonna be fine by me on the simple aspect that Lugosi was back as Dracula and he should have been there the whole time, because goodness, does he sell it wonderfully. The eyes, those hand movements, you can feel that aura radiating from him. Now that's great stuff.
