Re: The Last Movie You Watched Thread

A Quiet Place: FINALLY saw this, I've been wanting to see it since it came out. Has overtaken "Signs" as my favorite extra terrestrial/alien movie of all time. Amazing acting, direction, and a lot of drama mixed in with legitimate suspense. Its rare that a movie keeps me on the edge of my seat but this one accomplished it. Plus the aliens are creepy as hell. Loved this movie!!

I'm a fan of John Krasinski as an actor but he gained a lot of credibility as a director with this movie, I'll be keeping an eye out for whatever he does next, 10/10 for this movie.

"The amazing true story of Billy Moore, an English boxer incarcerated in Thailand's most notorious prison. Thrown into a world of drugs and violence, he finds his best chance to escape is to fight his way out in Muay Thai tournaments"

This was some compelling stuff. Joe Cole was superb in the lead role and it was a tense, brutal look at his life inside a Bangkok prison and how he literally fought his way out.

The near six years away from this did wonders. It's got a completely different rhythm than the original, with a truly full blown surrealistic humor/anti-humor approach, some of it even feeling improvisational. (cleary is scripted, but has that vibe) McKay's direction is taking a lot of stylistic flourishes to the absurdism, especially with the four corner picture framing scene in the apartment. The key is he knows how to handle comedy, but when he tries to take this away from that platform, he fails miserably. Please return to Ferrell, and vice-versa. Glad to say this is a great time, following the classic first. High point is Ron being B...LIND or that jackass Kanye West getting blown up with a space lazer. Because if that's not escapism from a reality that should be, then idk what is.

Shazam! (2019)
Just an all round fun superhero origin movie. I always thought the costume was a bit goofy, but it works well with Zachary Levi. Even the acting from the children was great. There's some light humour involved, but it paid off well. The monsters look terrifying, probably a bit too much for little kids. There's a Wilhelm scream in here and there are post credit scenes as well. 7/10

Rampart: I had never heard of this movie, I came across it on the Roku Channel. My policy is "if it has Woody Harrelson in it, I will watch it" haha. What a great movie!! He's a corrupt cop caught up in a bunch of cases and things he's done in the past trying to overcome all of it. Loved the character he played in this, a great character study and a movie that I'll be watching for years to come.

If you've never seen it and you're a fan of Woody Harrelson I'd check it out, might even be my favorite movie with him in it now.

Rambo : First Blood

I had never seen any Rambo movie except the last one. I was shocked when I realized the movie doesn't even take place in Vietnam, I guess that's the image I've always had of the character.

Overall, it didn't age that well, I liked Rocky a lot more

A FF7 fan-fiction that was written after downing three bottles of Nyquil? Yes please. The entire backend 40 minutes of this are one extended, continuous battle scene. I can't deny, it totally worked with me. Once all the characters started to show up too. Ooooooohhhhhh lordy, that's the ticket. If this really is canonical though, that is very peculiar. Guess that tells you the demand beyond the game, to bring back Sephiroth on a complete whim with one more battle vs Cloud, then to just evaporate instantly again. It's completely akin to those non-canon DBZ films with Cooler or Broly where there's this outrageous threat, Dragon Balls are found easily in no time for a wish, and things reset as if nothing happened. That's where this falls into. There's a part of me that wants more adventures from this world, simply because. The same rules can apply. I just like to see it animated to happen. A fairly wild and rewarding sight beyond the game play.

Rambo II / III / IV

The two sequels don't have the same aura as the original but I did enjoy them for what they were. It's particularly hard to take them seriously when you have seen the Hot Shots movies.

John Rambo is ok but man was it bloody and brutal, I loved the climax.
