Re: Halloween (October 19th, 2018)

From a Yahoo interview with Jamie Lee Curtis:

Quote:
“And as soon as I read what David Green and Danny McBride had come up with … and the way that they connected the dots of the story, it made so much sense to me that it felt totally appropriate for me to return to Haddonfield, Ill., for another 40th-anniversary retelling,” Curtis said. “There was the idea of, ‘What do you call it?’ If I had had my druthers, I probably would’ve called it Halloween Retold. Because it’s being retold. It’s the original story in many, many, many ways. Just retold 40 years later with my granddaughter.”
Quote:
“I’ve seen a trailer and I’ve seen some footage, and it’s terrifying,” said Curtis, who reprises her role of Laurie Strode 40 years after first facing off against Myers in the John Carpenter-directed classic. “They went full-tilt boogeyman. And I’ve never said that in my life, and I will say full-tilt boogeyman for the rest of the year as I go around talking about this.”

Halloween Retold?

I do like hearing this film is terrifying to Jamie Lee. Hopefully it's not terrifying the way Halloween: Resurrection turned out.

Trailer coming soon!

Re: Halloween (October 19th, 2018)

I am one of those guys that is usually not for reboots or bringing franchises back. Mostly they are just cash grabs by a studio. Occasionally there is a movie that the studio was not really behind be it financially and/or promotion wise leading to the movie being a flop originally but having a cult following. That being said I also have seen franchises either start off in a good direction and get derailed or have potential to go somewhere but never get there. It sounds like that might be the case here. That in hind sight certain people see how this franchise SHOULD have gone. So doing a retelling and thus changing the mythology and history could be interesting. If it is and is a success this could lead to a whole new gene in movies. One franchise I like but think has so much more potential and could benefit from this is Phantasm.

Beat me, if you can. Survive, if I let you!

Phantasm doesn't need to be touched anymore. Ravager was a strong (assumed) final note to an all around tremendous franchise.

Mask looks fine. Not surprised, the last thing I expected was that changing. b/c...nobody would be THAT stupid. Even when H20 checks in last for this franchise, it still gets Michael & his iconic look right.

The 1978 original and Rob Zombie's 2007 remake were the best Michael Myers masks and overall scary looks for The Shape.

H20 was trash. They inconsistently used different masks in the same movie too. Also trash are IV (+ blonde Michael cameo ), Zombie's sequel, and the ultimate dud was V.

I agree the mask in this film looks fine. Shiv said it perfectly when he described the mask as...haunting.

And it wasn’t turning Michael Myers into some supernatural being that couldn’t be killed— that stuff to me isn’t scary. I want to be scared by something that I really think could happen. I think it’s much more horrifying to be scared by someone standing in the shadows while you’re taking the trash out as opposed to someone who can’t be killed pursuing you.”

I agree that it is scarier to have some evil lurking in the shadows than an unstoppable killer. His supernatural aspect did get to be too much, but Carpenter introduced that element in the first film. No man can be shot in the head and the body several times and get up and walk away. No man could, but the Boogeyman could. There was clearly something evil about Michael but it's beyond rational explanation.
It should be mysterious instead of "MICHAEL MEYERS NO SELLS EVERYTHING ALL DAMN DAY AND NIGHT"

It should make you think a little bit. What really happened? Does Michael Meyers have some kind of paranormal thing going on or not?

Instead of slapping you in the face with "HE IS INVINCIBLE" purely because 'it's a B movie at heart/in spirit/whatever' aka SCHLOCK for SCHLOCK'S SAKE

Re: Halloween (October 19th, 2018)

Jame Lee Curtis just really got me pumped for this and not only because she is still freakin' hot. I am all in for terrifying.

Thinking about this series caused me to flashback to Halloween II. My father took me to see it. We could tell it wasn't quite as good as the original but it was fine. Two teenaged African-Anerican girls were sitting behind us and during the hospital scenes they kept yelling. "Somebody needs to turn the damn light on!" That's my predominant memory of II and it's a good one.

I’ve been skeptical of this from the very beginning, and it looks like I had good reason to be. The test screening went horribly. The original article that was posted by horrorfreaknews was “removed at the studios request”.

Re: Halloween (October 19th, 2018)

"Nods to the 3rd movie too"

What, the one Myers wasn't in and was disconnected from the franchise?

It is disconcerting to read negative feedback already but I'll wait to see closer to release before I go and judge this tbh. I'm expecting flaws as it's still a modern horror and despite it being a Halloween movie that they say they are trying to replicate the past, I'm expecting modern annoyances to still creep in.

The biggest thing with Halloween and what most modern horror movies don't have is atmosphere. In the original Halloween is when Michael is stalking Laurie and her friends in broad daylight, it's just got that atmosphere of dread and that's what this new movie should aim to bring back.

Honestly, audiences not liking it kind of makes me more hopeful than if they did. Track records.
