I hope more "optimisim" doesn't mean "silly quips and general lack of tension".

I hope we get more Superman movies. Please give Supes some love.

Also enough of Batman movies. Seriously is Batman the only character WB cares about?

I'm a huge Batman fan, but I wouldn't mind if maybe they put the spotlight on people like Batgirl or Nightwing. There are other characters in Gotham and its neighboring cities that are interesting. I would actually like to see Batman on TV, at least that'd be something different than the 50 Hollywood movies they want to put him in

And I too could get behind a Superman movie that's actually good. I just don't know who is the right choice of director.

Totally. That's something I don't get about DC Movies being too dark when DC is actually very dark, sure you can have jokes ( well, not with WW, Batman & Superman usually anyway ) but I don't want it to be too happy, I want to at least see some of those moments on screen

- Jason Todd being tortured to death
- Barbara Gordon getting shot
- Aquaman's son getting killed in front of him
- The Flash killing Thawne to save Iris
- Hal Jordan being controlled by fear and killing all the Green Lanterns

DC really needs to be able to have serious moments like these without them feeling useless because everybody is joking around the next moment. That's why BvS was great, you had some jokes with Alfred or Perry but you could feel everything that happened since the beginning, everything was hard and hitting you because the heroes were serious about it

Brad Bird would be perfect for Superman or like @Blackbeard said, George Miller.

Agreed. It's all about knowing when to take things serious and when to joke around. Stuff like downtime(like you said with Alfred and Perry) is the perfect time for levity and comedy stuff. When shit is going down though I don't need constant one liners that kills the tension almost to the point where it comes off self-aware.

Also it depends on the hero. Batman for example should always be dark and serious(he should still have levity though, which is different from comedy). Then you have Flash for example who can get away with more comedy moments because he's generally a more "lighthearted" hero, but thats not to say you should just joke his movies up and make him a comedian, and never give us anything serious with him. Again I always bring this up in discussions about this but look at the Flash TV show for example. People always say that the show is "lighthearted" but in actuallity there's ALOT of really serious and dark moments, it's just the showrunners know HOW and WHEN to use both comedy and seriousness, and doesn't place some random joke in the middle of a Reverse-Flash fight or Zoom fight. When they're on screen shit GOES DOWN.

But yea. If they can somehow translate how they present the Flash into most of their movies, it would be perfect IMO.

Re: DCEU Discussion & Speculation

You know speaking of dark vs light, I feel like Sam Raimi and Joss Whedon are masters at seamlessly alternating between the two. Whedon's Buffy and Angel shows had moments that were heart-renching and moments that were so dark as to seem nihilistic. Joss is the guy who had a rep for brutally killing beloved characters before it became George R R Martin's thing. And Buffy's "The Body" episode was one of the most realistic portrayals on television of what it is like to find a beloved family member dead in your home. And yet on those same shows you had a comedy episode of Angel where he was turned into a Jim Henson puppet or a hilarious musical episode of Buffy. When you watched the episode "Hush", it had moments of hilarity and moments that were terrifying

And Ash vs Evil Dead, modeled after Raimi's Evil Dead movies is chock full of comedy and yet still has moments of such brutality and violence as to make you cringe and some genuinely scary shit too

WB will never stop making Batman movies. Why pass up on all the cash the character makes them? That wouldn't be good for business.

Also they don't have to stop making Batman movies completely just so they can make more Superman movies. WB has more than enough money to be doing both at the same time. In fact they are making a ton of non Batman centric movies as we speak. If people don't want anymore Batman movies then they should just stop watching them and buying his merch. Nobody is forcing anyone to stay interested in the character, but the reality is, people still are.

Also people keep asking for all these non Batman movies but they have to understand that they can't just invest all this money on other characters right off the bat and anounce a dozen new GL movies, a dozen new Superman movies, etc. You have to slowly build these brands little by little. You invest a little bit of money on one movie, and if the fans love it, invest some more, and if the fans love it more, invest more and more money, and so on. You have to see if the market is there in the first place before you just dump loads of cash.

But yea as of now, WB is on the right track with annoucing a lot of non Batman centric superhero titles. Lets just hope they are good so WB doesn't HAVE to rely on Bats anymore.

Re: DCEU Discussion & Speculation

If DC's animated films can be dark, then why can't the live action films? The animated films are true to the stories they're adapting. They don't water things down to play to children, and the films are borrowing elements from the same stories.
