re: Godzilla: King of Monsters (March 31, 2019)

Michael Doughtery will (officially) direct.
Quote:
After first being hired to run the “Godzilla” universe writing room, “Krampus” director Michael Dougherty has now been tapped to direct the next installment in the monster movie franchise as well.

When news first broke that Dougherty and his “Krampus” co-writer Zach Shields would be penning the sequel, reports surfaced that Dougherty would also helm the pic, but insiders said then that the deal was only to write the sequel, not direct. After months of work in the writers room, Legendary eventually extended an offer for him to direct as well.

Alex Garcia will oversee the project for Legendary.

In October 2015, Legendary and Warner Bros. made a joint announcement that all future “King Kong” and “Godzilla” films would be developed by Legendary and distributed by Warner Bros., starting with “Kong: Skull Island” in March. Legendary currently holds a distribution deal with Universal, but in order to re-team Godzilla and King Kong, Legendary decided to send the rights back over to Warner Bros. to be able to create this new “ecosystem” of giant super-species, both classic and new.

“Godzilla 2” is currently dated for Mar. 22, 2019, with “Godzilla vs. Kong” set for May 29, 2020.

Dougherty has strong ties to Legendary, having written and directed “Trick ‘r Treat,” one of Legendary’s first productions, which has become a cult hit. He then teamed with Shields on the recent Christmas horror pic “Krampus.”

Filming to start in Atlanta this summer?

Seems like Atlanta is becoming a really popular place for movie productions.

OK, I was nervous when Gareth Edwards didn't comeback because my fear was that without his restraint, it would just turn into a Transformers style movie and would leave me with sensory overload.

But, I am happy with that choice of director, so we're off to a good start.

Living here in Georgia, it's a trend I've been really happy to see happen. A few reasons for it are:
  • Georgia has an up to 30% transferable tax credit for productions filmed in the state.
  • That tax credit and the earlier productions have lead to investments in the area that have made a great infrastructure for film and tv. We actually now have the largest studio backlot in the country (Atlanta Media Campus & Studios).
  • Georgia has diverse filming areas (rural, suburban, urban) in close proximity to one another.

If they film this one near your area, I EXPECT PICS GODDAMNIT !!

(Expects big things but probably just gonna be Millie Bobby Brown reacting to nothing )

Kyle Chandler will play Millie Bobby Brown's father, Ken Watanabe expected to return.
Quote:
Chandler will play Brown’s father in the Legendary sequel.

“Krampus” helmer Michael Dougherty is directing the project and wrote the script with Zach Shields.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe and Elizabeth Olsen starred in the 2014 “Godzilla” reboot, directed by Gareth Edwards, though sources say only Watanabe is likely to return for the sequel.

Plot details are unknown.

Like the director, best news is no Gareth Edwards! Now I'm excited for this film.

Won't feel like watching a botchy 3 hours diva match to finally get to the main event.
