I'm sure it's a combination of her and Disney. Disney telling her we want this or we don't want this and her going along with it and leaning on the directors and the directors are like wtf come on then eventually okay fine we're outski.

Honestly saw this coming. It sounds like, from what I have been able to gather, Colin Trevorrow has been wanting out since June when his friend and writing partner Derek Connelly was fired by Lucasfilm. As the summer continued Lucasfilm executives were successful in talking Trevorrow down and cajoling him to stay aboard as Jack Thorne took a crack at the screenplay for Episode IX. Evidently, contradicting the rumors from a few days ago, the Thorne draft stinks and now Lucasfilm is finally allowing Trevorrow to depart.

It is sounding like Rian Johnson will probably shepherd the screenplay beginning soon. The timetable is still indicating that Episode IX will begin shooting in early 2018, so they need to sort out this screenplay business rather fast. Johnson will probably be involved, and perhaps he will direct Episode IX as well.

Can we please just have good Star Wars films and not have all this Disney directorial drama. If they fuck this trilogy up I am going to be seriously upset.

Although I personally don't care at all about the spinoff films. Rogue One was pretty average and clearly suffered from being chopped up so much ("Little sister...") and my expectations could be considered so low for the solo Solo film.

Rogue one I really enjoyed. Excellent IMO. Not saying it was as good as the originals. No SW ever well be. Empire was the GOAT. But I really enjoyed RO.

The Last Jedi we'll be more Important. Can't be like Forcw Awakens. Needs its own footprint.

J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.
I imagine the "Return of the Jedi remake" comments have already begun.

Well he already did A New Hope remake so it seems more likely, it just depends on how episode VIII plays out and it should force JJ into carrying on with that story.
