Re: AMC Adapting Controversial Preacher Comic Book Series

I loved the comic, but am so lukewarm on this project. There is no way they can broach the subject matter the comic did. I have no clue how loose of an adaptation this will be. I'll still give it a chance as I do for all comic shows, but my expectations are lower than for any series in recent memory.

Re: AMC Adapting Controversial Preacher Comic Book Series

Even though I am still not all that thrilled about the cast or the network I am going to try and remain optimistic. I mean it's a privilege I am even getting to see one of the best graphic novel series of all time get adapted.

Any news regarding the castings for Herr Starr and The Saint of Killers?

Re: AMC Adapting Controversial Preacher Comic Book Series

Today it was cleared to series, so this is definitely a reality. I still can't fathom this working, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt as the source material was just amazing.

Quick side question for the Preacher fans in here.

Is Crossed worth reading? ?/10

Re: AMC Adapting Controversial Preacher Comic Book Series

Quote:
Speaking with CraveOnline, Rogen talked about the process of adapting the controversial and very graphic series for TV, saying they want to keep fans of the comic guessing about some elements.

ďWe are changing the specifics of how the narrative is unfolding. A lot of the building blocks we are not changing, a lot of characters weíre keeping, but we want to make a show that if youíre a fan of the comic, you donít know what to expect. And we have no interest honestly in just doing a literal page-to-page adaptation. It just seems like the most boring creative endeavor one could go on

Rogen went on to say they intend to address the various mini-series spin-offs of the main Preacher title, most of which focused on back stories of specific characters.

ďI mean thereís some things that even Garth will argue, is quick to admit that we probably should not even attempt to put on television. Thereís some characters, weíre talking about maybe we combine these two into one person. But to us the tangential element is one of our favorite things. The fact that it does go off into these other worlds and explore these other characters, I mean thatís something that we wholeheartedly intend on indulging in because itís one of the best parts about the comic. Just the massive tapestry of f***ing weirdos. [Laughs.]Ē

Finally, Rogen teased the elephant in the room about the spirit of icon John Wayne, who makes many an appearance in the source material.

ďI donít know! [Laughs.],Ē Rogen said when asked who you even get to play the actor. ďThatís a good question. Someone shrouded in shadow

Preacher Trailer to Debut During The Walking Dead On November 1st

Quote:
AMC is bringing fans “The Walking Dead Mega Sunday” event on November 1st at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. During the all-new extended 90-minute episode of “The Walking Dead,” AMC will air the world premiere of the Preacher trailer for AMC’s upcoming, highly anticipated series, as well as the television premiere of the Into the Badlands trailer.

In this all-new episode of The Walking Dead, “Here’s Not Here,” written by Scott M. Gimple and directed by Stephen Williams, the survivors must ask themselves who can be trusted, and better yet, can they change? Critics continue to praise the series, including Verne Gay of Newsday, who calls it “exceptional.”

Based on the twisted and popular ‘90s comic book franchise of the same name, Preacher, created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) embark on a journey to, literally, find God. The Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios co-production was developed for television by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (This Is the End, Superbad, Neighbors) and showrunner Sam Catlin (“Breaking Bad”). The series is set to premiere mid-2016.

Re: AMC Adapting Controversial Preacher Comic Book Series

I'm still a little disappointed this isn't being done on HBO, a network that is much better suited for this series.
