This guy is just sucking the life out of the forums. Coming in under name name..After new name[And repeat]. Is there a way to not just ban him from from the forums. But to keep him from re-joining again afterwards all together??
I think I know who he's talking about but they've gone by so many names I wouldn't know what to refer to them as. If they've been perma-banned doesn't that ban the IP though? Unless this particular person wasn't perma-banned, which leads me to ask why bother making a new account?
^^^ Perma banning someone doesn't ban the IP, just that individual account so they're obviously still free to sign up again with a different email. You can do IP bans but there's like a thousand ways for the person who's been banned to easily get around them plus you also run the risk of accidentally stopping perfectly legitimate users accessing the site, so generally speaking they're not really an advisable thing to do.
tbh there's nothing you can really do other than keep banning him and just hope the guy gets bored of making new accounts.
Ah, okay. I just remember one forum I was a part of did IP bans generally with perma-bans, thought it was here obviously I was wrong and yeah, I don't think it's necessary either because there are ways around it anyone with decent knowledge of a computer can utilize. Pretty sad though if you go to that much effort for a forum.
If you suspect a certain member is a rejoiner PM an admin with the pertinent information (a username, or even better, a link to their profile) and one of us can look into it.
I've seen countless posters accused of rejoining recidivism. Their post quality never improves, they are creatively constrained by their own lack of intelligence.
Not sure who you are referring to. There is one I know about, but he is using an alt account and not really hurting anyone. And I can't prove it anyway. Also pretty sure I've identified someone else's new account, but once again, not hurting anyone. So I want to see how he does this time around.
Some of them are fun, like Kobra for a while last year when he kept popping up to spout racist nonsense with a new account every other week. :lol
The problem with banning someones IP is that most people desperate enough to rejoin under five or six accounts will likely just find other ways to get around the ban and worse yet they could be posting from a public location that may house other respective users and inconvenience them heavily.
