Maybe it shouldn't have, but it did. And it helped propel Batista into stardom.

It wasn't Austin's first choice either. Or Goldberg's. Or Kurt Angle's. Or a lot of these guys. You'd be surprised how many of these people stumbled upon Pro Wrestling out of chance.

It doesn't matter what would have happened if WCW was still around or not. In fact if anything that just once again shows how lucky Cena was that WCW wasn't around at that point.

Oh I definitely agree that Edge should have been pushed at that point, no doubt about that.

Why? He was very good at what he did. He wasn't on the talent level of a Steve Austin, or even Cena for that matter, but he was still able to manage some very good feuds and pump out some legitimately great matches. He was a natural talent and I'm glad he ended up being as successful as he did.

Fair enough.

except for this, you actually liked the fact that Batista...argh...to cut a long story short he too is someone who benefitted from WCW's demise

Despite what you may have heard about so-called "smark marks" and the "IWC" some of us are actually here to help. All you have to do is ask.

It should be 100% standard across pro wrestling.

Fine, let that be a fact that he benefited from WCW's demise. That doesn't take away from what he was able to provide us with on screen on a regular basis during his time with WWE. He was consistently very good in the main event scene. He deserved his spot. He may have gotten lucky, and had circumstances been ever so slightly different he probably wouldn't have been there, but he nonetheless deserved it.
