Re: Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar (WrestleMania 33) Review

I want you to know that I currently do not enjoy Brock Lesnar as a product on TV in in modern day WWE. I do not like that he doesn't have to remember scripts or more complex in-ring (or out of ring) blocking like typical WWE main eventers (I.E. The Fatal 5-Way At Extreme Rules). I also REALLY am into trying to support the newer full-time workers.

I can't however deny how right you are about how this match blew expectations away.

This is one of the more rewatchable Wrestlemania matches because of how short it is and how impactful it is.

For one moment, I can be a kid, enjoy Goldberg and forget about wrestling politics for literally 5 minutes and watch Brock Lesnar go to war with the hottest babyface that WWE didn't acquire during the Monday Night Wars.

I can GET that match that I felt robbed of as a 10 year old kid. I got it 13 years later.

I respect what you have written and this is someone that prefers 20 minute emotional riveting RAW Main Events between Charlotte and Sasha Banks or someone that enjoys seeing Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have stare downs from long continuity and kill each other from pent up frustration of brotherhood qualms (like at Extreme Rules). Or watching #DIY overcome The Revival from a long slow-paced build of well executed tag team wrestling.

This, could be compared to monumental giants just killing each other, a car crash until the cars just completely stop moving and one just doesn't turn on anymore.

Thanks for this write-up.

Fave Five: Queen Charlotte <3, Seth Rollins (BURN IT DOWN), Sami Zayn, Chad Gable and The Revival

Match was great, MOTY candidate. They rectified their Wrestlemania 20 mistake.

Probably the greatest short match of all time. It was fun, it was a spectacle, it was entertaining and a bright spot that the second half of Mania desperately needed.

Yeah, it was better than what I was expecting. That first spear when Goldberg no sold Lesnar's suplex still makes me smile every time.

Goldberg not taking multiple F5 was really my only pet peeve. He should've been much more stubborn in staying down.

Yup. My one real gripe of the match. Goldberg should have took at least 2 before being beaten considering what Lesnar kicked out of tbh.

This match worked only because it was Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg, who are both titans, superheroes in the wrestling industry. The match was booked more like a fight scene out of a movie, rather than a traditional wrestling match, because the characters were big enough to sell it in that fashion. Had you included anyone else, it probably would have failed.

Yeah agree with that. These two are larger than life characters that fit the bill (eh eh) for a match like this. It wouldn't work as well with just anybody.
