Yeah, the difference was that NJPW wasn't so arrogant that they let the situation get out of control for years on end. It's called taking initiative and being honest/forthcoming with your audience, something WWE hasn't been in a while.

You're right about that.

Don't overestimate what NJPW did with Naito.

I believe it was Naito himself who took the risk of completely changing his gimmick. He really persevered with the long game when he first walked out annoying the crowds to death with his very slow stripping off of his suits.

Remember, two Wrestle Kingdoms ago, Gedo had Goto go over Naito. Why? It seemed Gedo didn't see much in the new character, or at the very least, thought Goto (charisma black hole who doesn't want to change like Naito has, or doesn't have the creativity to do so) had more upside.

Congrats to him, because I thought as much of him before his transformation as I did of guys like Goto or 95% of the WWE roster. Naito has become one of my favourites because he took a chance and is doing things no one else is doing.

I do wish he threw the G1 trophy though... I think it's against his character not to have done it..

Is Andrade Cien Almas getting royaltys? Because Los Ingobernables was his thing and showed Naito the path to Tranquilo. Like The Rock when he turned heel in 97 and joined The Nation or when Shawn Michaels ran Marty Jannetty's head through the Barber Shop window, you could pin-point the moment Naito's career trajectory changed.
