Re: Oh wow I had not heard Bruno admit this...NWA>WWF

Was this before or after his induction into WWE Hall Of Fame? I ask because you could tell there was a time Bruno did not like what WWE turned into and probably felt betrayed on what he founded the WWE on and current day.

I think it was HHH who showed him they actually changed from the Jerry Springer stuff although Bruno seemed to hate Vince back in 1989 going on that press tour with Superstar.

Still he's known to be a stand up guy and admitting that NWA was superior is interesting. Although Ric Flair already spilled the beans on that last Nitro when he said Vince's father voted for him to be champion too over his own champion Backlund.

Re: Oh wow I had not heard Bruno admit this...NWA>WWF

I think most of the people who are still around from that era, or people like myself who actually are interested in the history (Which is sad to say I'm more interested in the history than actually watching wrestling anymore) already understand that the NWA champion was the only real "world" champion. The WWWF themselves even (could be wrong but I think I heard this) actually rejoined the NWA in some sort of capacity in the 70s (hence why Vince Jr could still vote for Flair as NWA champion).

Those that don't probably weren't even born yet - or are from the Northeast and never saw any (or much) of any other wrestling since it was so regional then.

It wasn't until Vince tried to take over everything and Hogan that the WWF was the big dog, and even then there were many pockets of the country that were still loyal to the NWA where WWF couldn't draw very well.

The current WWE has pushed to really appreciate the wrestling of yesteryear even more than I did back then. Vince Mcmahon actually gave the green light to this caption and photo in 1991.

WWF was part of the NWA until whenever so I can believe he said this. WWF was always primarily a Northeastern promotion but having those media markets benefited them greatly when Vince started to expand the empire.

Just shows yet again who imho the greatest wrestling world champion was. Bruno a bigger draw than any NWA world champion just had the class you can't teach.

Sucks that Bruno refused to be simultaneous WWF and NWA champion because if he had been he would be without a doubt the undisputed GOAT of prowrestling.

Re: Oh wow I had not heard Bruno admit this...NWA>WWF

Bruno had bad blood with Vince and WWF for years after his time, only coming back for his payday at the HOF.

Take this with a salt shaker.

"You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait."

"I backed him. You can see how loyal he is. He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, 'Mitt, drop to your knees.' He would have dropped to his knees."

"You oughta see this guy - 'uh, I don't know what I said, uh, I don't remember,'"

“I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”

"He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."
