Interesting, back then Vince was a commentator, wonder how that would have went over. One of your top commentators going vs. a former WWF champ.

Re: Vince Mcmahon vs Bruno Sammartino WM 3 Rumor

The Vanna vs. Liz mud match had more credibility. Bruno never would have agreed to this(maybe if they put the belt on his son David) and it makes no sense. Ventura was retired and had stopped his trying to goad Bruno into a match shtick by then. Apter and Peters were reporting almost strictly in kayfabe back then and were just throwing shit against the wall.

Not removing until (X ) Ric Flair shows up on TV stone sober.(It looks like he did it. Good for you Naitch

I wonder too. Vince wanting to perform in front of the largest crowd ever fits right in with his ego, but at least back then he had some respect for the kayfabe aspect it seems.

They wouldn't possibly use the real life drama with him and Bruno's issue over how the business was going in that direction. It was a year later that critics and old school fans say Vince went too far with the Hogan vs Andre rematch on NBC. He obviously wanted to be more Walt Disney than PT Barnum by that point.

Vince beating Bruno at WM 3 would have all hell breaking lose if what Bruno's reactions in 1985 and 1986 were proving. It would be a lose lose situation when you think about it.

You know what? If Apter put out the rumor Hogan vs Bruno was scheduled for Mania I wonder how the audiences would have reacted to that?

If Vince wanted that world indoor record and thought of Andre as a selling point against Hogan, you just know it was in his thoughts of possibly having Hogan vs Bruno too. Only thing is Vince would fear babyface Bruno against Hogan hurting Hogan UNLESS he had Bruno turn heel and I don't see Bruno doing that(unless you said Vince played ball with his son). Backlund was asked and we saw how that turned out in 1984 and 1985, Backlund jumped ship.

Never would have happened! Vince was an announcer that did not want the general public and audience to know he was the owner of the company. Also, for this to happen, you would have had to have had the beloved icon Bruno turn heel knowing that the Mr. McMahon character was not a thought back then.

If Bruno was in good health and on good terms in the late 90's, I am sure Vince would have gone for it....1987, not a chance!
