What is your honest opinion of The Ultimate Warrior?

I do not believe I have posted one on him before, but before you start when giving your honest opinion, please post the good as well as what you considered to be not so good when giving your opinion about this wrestler. And what would you have done to make this wrestling superstar more successful.

I'll go first.

In my opinion The Ultimate Warrior is easily one of the top 5 wrestlers of all time. I thought his warrior face paint was awesome. He just looked like a superhero. Whenever I'm feeling anxious, or down I put on one of his DVD's and he lifts my spirits right up!

I believe he lacked size and height, however. I know he was billed at 6'4, but I think he was only about 5'9.5- 5'10, and most of the time stood at a little over 200 pounds. Though when he came in the late 80's, he was probably about 235-245 lbs. He was definitely over 260 when he wrestled with Sting in the UWF. I recently saw a match between Rick Martel and The Ultimate Warrior, and there wasn't as a huge size difference between the two. Scott Hall said of Warrior, that he had a small frame, but he could have made up for it a little if he just gained a little more weight.

I would have loved to see his matches against Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and Sid Justice. I just wish he wasn't so greedy, and didn't hold up people for more money, which is very immoral to do. He shouldn't have left so much. I would have loved to see who else he would have fought in the New Generation Era. Ultimate Warrior vs. Vader...Shawn Michaels...Ahmed Johnson...or even Bret Hart! That would have been awesome.

He actually said he achieved the look he wanted when he returned to the WWF in 1996. When he was constantly wrestling on the road, I noticed his body, especially since his back had bumps, bruises, and was swollen Did you see his back in 1996? Good golly! Time off really does make you look better. Thank God for testosterone treatments!

I loved loved loved his promos even if they did come across a bit creepy and weird sometimes. But he was probably a creepy and weird guy that did some bad things and it made him come across creepy and weird. Anyways, his promos were always top notch. Very underrated. You just can't compare him to any other wrestler. I loved his time in WCW as well. His 15 minute rant in WCW against Hulk Hogan was one of the greatest pipe-bombs of all time in my opinion (I guess you could call it a pipe bomb anyway), even if he did ramble a little.

Loved his matches against Rick Rude. His match at Summerslam 1990 looked so painful, they probably took an H-bomb or two and went to bed.

Now, I know people say Bret Hart this, and that. He's nothing compared to Bret Hart! But dare I say, while Bret was a good wrestler, Warrior was a great superstar.

In short I'd pick an Ultimate Warrior match over a Bret Hart match any day. With Warrior you get unlimited energy, a great physique, cool 80's hair, non stop action and face paint. You feel pumped to run and do some workouts. The face paint makes you happy, and it's just FUN. What's not to like?

I know he The Ultimate Warrior has since passed, but I say God bless him, and may he rest in peace.

Top 5 of all time????

I'll admit I thought Warrior was pretty cool when I was younger and always preferred him to Hogan. Then I got older and realised that he wasn't that great. He looked awesome but he wasn't great to watch in the ring really. He was also an interesting (if slightly batshit crazy) promo.

He was a wrestler I outgrew fairly quickly though

You do you. If he's in your top 5 then all power to you.

He would be nowhere near my top 50 but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

You changed your post!

He can be wherever you want him to be. It's your list, not mine

I just changed it back again

But I'll say top 10 if it makes you happy. I think that post is more appropriate here.

Bad wrestler, excellent character, fans loved his energy, his entrance, his intensity and charisma. Is he one of my favorites? No he did not really appeal to me, but he was very popular and fans loved him despite being not a good wrestler he had qualities that made people want to watch.

Amazing intensity and energy. Lowsy wrestler. He was basically Luger with face paint and less skill.

Re: What is your honest opinion of The Ultimate Warrior?

He's one of my Top 3 all-time favorites, but if you honestly think he's Top 5/10 all-time, you know zero about wrestling history. As a wrestling historian who has worked on numerous projects, he likely wouldn't even crack the Top 150 worldwide. He had zero wrestling skill, and his career was very short. Bret Hart isn't near the Top 10, either.

For the record, I met Warrior during his World title run in 1990, and I'd estimate his true height to be about 6'-6'1".

He was an excellent cartoon character in the era of larger than life cartoon characters. Amazing look, charisma, and energy, but not much in ring skill. Hogan's replacement that didn't work out.

As a kid, I liked him better than Hogan. But of course, that was the opinion of a 6 year old lol.

Re: What is your honest opinion of The Ultimate Warrior?

Warrior was the epitome of too hot to handle, too cold to hold.

He was one half of my favorite Wrestlemania match against Randy Savage. In addition he had a cracking match against Hulk Hogan, and a great IC feud with Rick Rude. Warrior wrestled a style that I enjoyed, freakish strength, no selling, always looked strong (but in a good way). And was great, right up until he won the world title, where he appeared so OP that the matches appeared uncompetitive.

Of course when he returned to the F in 1996 he looked out of place. Everybody around him was like a lower level of star, he had so much starpower that it actually diminished anybody in the ring with him, as Warrior being so OP there wasn't any reason for matches, since Warrior winning was a foregone conclusion.

In wCw, I loved his rant at Hogan, and thought it was easily one of the best things wCw had done in years.
