Brawl For All: Which Fights Were Works?

The Brawl For All Tournament in 1998 was indirectly advertised as a shoot tournament, with fights involving boxing and wrestling take downs.

There's a handful of people who believe Bart Gunn's last two fights in the tournament, against Godfather and Bradshaw, were both works.

After Bart legit knocked out Steve Williams, it would have made sense for WWE to rig the rest of the tourney so Bart would win. But to my knowledge, neither Godfather nor Bradshaw have publicly said these fights were staged, and I've heard both make out of character comments many years later about these fights. Bart Gunn got released in 1999, so I don't see why WWE would care for so many years about keeping this a secret. It would only make Godfather and Bradshaw look better if they said they took a dive for Bart and didn't really lose.

Bob Holly admitted his Brawl For All fight with Bart Gunn, which took place before the Bart/Williams fight, was a work, so I don't see why Godfather and Bradshaw wouldn't also admit this if it was true.

Has anyone heard of these or any other Brawl For All fights being staged?

None of them were works.

Which is why Bart Gunn won.

Butterbean offered to put on a show with Gunn, let him hang for a bit - Vince told him just to go knock Gunn out as quick as he could. Vince was that pissed at Bart. Have his contracted guy get starched by Butterbean at WM.

To think that they could've made a star outta Bart Gunn with the whole Brawl For All win, and bring a lot of good from it. But nope, 'our guy Steve Williams didn't win, so let's just feed Bart to Butterbean' .

Another shining example of "DON'T YOU DARE BE SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE I'LL HAVE YOU RAIL-ROADED OUTTA HERE!!!!!!" by Vince McMahon.

Then make them WORK fights so the guy you wanna push actually wins, you moron!

What a fucking prick.

Genuine question here. If they saw such huge money in a Dr. Death vs Stone Cold match, do you honestly think they’d hold a shoot competition to build Dr. Death that way? They’d either rig it to begin with or find a better way to build Doc like have him align with Vince while destroying everyone.

Williams' reputation was such that no one booking the thing had any doubt in their mind that Williams would steamroll the competition.

I doubt any of it was a work. Holly claiming his fight was a work seems like a way to save face and claim he didn't lose a shoot fight.

Not removing until (X ) Ric Flair shows up on TV stone sober.(It looks like he did it. Good for you Naitch

The story I've heard is that it was mostly because Vince Russo wanted somebody to clean Bradshaw's clock.
