The Triple H Reign of Terror

From 2002-2003 Triple H held the RAW brand world heavyweight title belt. We hear about how bad the reign was but when should it have ended?

I think it should have ended at Summerslam to Bill Goldberg, Goldberg ended up winning the belt anyway but at a B level PPV, why not help establish Goldberg as a big time player in WWE by having him win the belt at one of the biggest PPV's of the year?

Interested to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Re: The Triple H Reign of Terror

You'd hardly be alone in that. Most people believe that Goldberg not winning in the Elimination Chamber was a huge mistake, especially after he dominated most of the match, Triple H spent most of it taking a nap, and the latter was hurt and needed time off. The timing was perfect, but then we got that wet fart of an ending and by the time Goldberg did win the title, the momentum was gone.

Although personally I feel like Booker T should have ended it at WrestleMania 19 myself.

Re: The Triple H Reign of Terror

goldberg shouldve realistically won it at summerslam where he goes on a winning streak until maybe mania 20 imo.

as per usual though, during that 2002-2004 period, people only won the world title so HHH could win it back.

Or got built up just for Triple H to run over them (RVD, Kane, Scott Steiner, Booker T, etc).

Re: The Triple H Reign of Terror

Ideally through WM 20 imo., Booker wins the belt at Mania, drops the belt to Goldberg in that Summerslam Elimination Chamber Bill was an absolute monster in. Goldberg drops clean at Armageddon to Kane (I think Kane's superb character work of that initial unmasked run merits a little reward there and it'd be a nice change of pace from the same ol Raw format we were having by creating a new layer of the HHH/HBK saga with them having to briefly put aside differences vs. Kane). You can do a triple threat of HBK/Michaels/Kane at the Rumble, do the same brilliant Taker tease to cost Kane the belt to give to HHH to drop to Benoit.

One of those instances when the company knew better than the fans (trust me I was bored with HHH too). It ended at the right time. When Batista mopped the floor with him. Setting up the future is much bigger than Booker, RVD, Goldberg.

Goldberg was already ruined mentally by Hogan and the Soma Coma Club. The WWE put way more into him then they were ever going to get back out of him. He was never the answer to fix/improve anything.

WWE overreacting to not having Austin and the Rock but making Raw entirely about HHH. It was pretty boring quite frankly, the earlier it could have ended the better.

This is accurate. Triple H held on to the main event/world championship for a long time because WWE was looking toward the future. Granted, Vince McMahon envisioned, long-term, Randy Orton to be the figure to supplant Triple H as their "top star" but plans had to change. Batista took the reins--all while John Cena was over on Smackdown becoming a major star in his own right, and ultimately the nine-month-or-so "transitional reign" of John Bradshaw Layfield turned out to be another plus because Cena was the man to defeat him. Both at Wrestlemania 21. The future was established, but the foundation for same had to be set and the Triple Hs and JBLs, whatever one thinks of them, were important for the health of that cause.

So you're saying Batista had much more potential than RVD back then?....

Non of the 2002 class was even close to RVD(01-03) in terms of overness, not then not ever. Batista did get get over in 05 but within months, his momentum went down, same thing happened with Cena, cause they both were green and lacked in some areas. Orton at the time was a step a head of his class, he was learning pretty fast, and basically had no flaws in the ring or on the mic(yes, he was a good talker back then)...and what happened after he won the world title??............He got beat the very next month by HHH and never had a world title run again until 2007, which was ended by HHH also. lol

Most wrestlers peak around 35-37 if they're injury free. RVD was only 32 in 2003, and had MUCH more experience than Batista, Cena, Lesnar, and Orton. There is no doubt he should've been a champion...and if the plan was to focus on the future, then explain to me Shawn's title reign in 02?...
