Wasn't it McAfee himself who said he'd never buy an 'Anti Virus' as they are so out of date these days?
If you are careful with what you do on the internet you don't need one. Windows Defender that comes with Windows is very good at doing its job already. Adding another program usually just eats up recourses.
I'd say just run with Windows Defender (set it up to do a schedule scan once a week or something) and maybe add some browser extensions to help you out, Adguard, Ublock - something along those lines to deal with ads, pop ups, etc.
