Jeremy Bloody Kyle...

So the shit has finally hit the fan with Jeremy Kyle having a person die within a week of filming an episode. We are all assuming this is suicide related but it has started a conversation about the types of TV shows that exploit people for entertainment. I would go so far as to say the likes of X-Factor are also culpable when they ridicule people who go on the show clearly having no sense of awareness of their own flaws.

I am NOT a 'snowflake'. Lets get that out the way. I am a compassionate person but know that sometimes stupid people do stupid things. It is hard, however, to see how one can justify exploiting people who are clearly ill-educated, often with emotional difficulties and have almost no interpersonal skills of note.

I often find the way Kyle heckles, goads and screams at his 'guests' to be totally degrading and often feel disgusted by his behaviour. He has the opinion that because he tackled an addiction that everyone else should get a grip. His self-righteousness is blatantly put on for the audience who jeer and boo in all the right places.

I don't believe this type of show has a place today. The 'aftercare' is inadequate, particularly in relation to the impact on social media and other forums to the guests and their problems. From my experience working in psychological departments these people are almost always damaged before they even walk in the door. If there has to be a Jeremy Kyle in the world there should be some conditions...

1) If a person on the show is taking a psychiatric drug or treatment they must be excluded from participation.

2) Anyone with a history of mental health service input in the past 5 years must be excluded.

3) Anyone with a history of self-harming or suicide attempts must be excluded.

4) The person must have a full psychological work up before participating consisting of two sessions with two independent psychologists.

5) Follow-up must include at least one year of psycho-therapy being offered with a range of treatment options (DBT, CBT or psycho-dynamic).

6) RELATE and other relationship charities should be offered as a standard. Also debt management, Drug and Alcohol Services, Housing and other services where people need it.

They can't open a pandora's box of psychiatric chaos and expect to be held unaccountable when things go wrong. There is a duty of care and I believe they have failed in this regard if this incident is suicide.

It exploits stupid and/or desperate people. It's a vile show designed to sneer at the poor.

Don't get me wrong, I've laughed at the odd short clip on Facebook from kyle, but this kind of trash TV is why I avoid terrestrial TV.

HE'S UNHINGED

Re: Jeremy Bloody Kyle...

Have they even said who/how yet?

Obviously it's something that relates to the subject of the show, or they wouldn't have had this shitfit.. But lots of hand-wringing and no facts so far..

All that is known is that the participant apparently sadly committed suicide (a week after filming of the episode) after failing a lie detector test which revealed he'd been cheating on his wife.

These types of shows are always gonna have complaints. Ultimately, the aftercare team are to blame. It's no coincidence it's happened here and with that 'Love Island' show. Better care needs to be shown in that regard.

However, folk that keep applying to go on the show are to blame too. They're makin' themselves laughin' stocks, and what else do they expect? Jeremy is just doin' his job, brother.

This is most likely due to my own problems, but I actually find episodes where it's centred upon mental health (rather than something ridiculous like 'LIE DETECTOR RESULTS', 'MY HUSBAND WANTS TO SLEEP WITH MY DAUGHTER', 'SUCH AND SUCH HAS STOLE MONEY FROM ME!' etc., hilarious as they can be) pretty helpful, and feel it can reach a larger audience.

Re: Jeremy Bloody Kyle...

I think that attempting to regulate stupidity is a fruitless task. What it does in the end is it ruins the lives of everyone else. People should be free to make their own decisions in life, regardless of whether the outcome is favourable.

Re: Jeremy Bloody Kyle...

All these exploitative trash shows are abhorrent

Steve Wilkos
Jeremy Kyle
Maury
Dr. Phil (THE WORST, fuck you Phil McGraw you fake ass piece of shit)
etc.

Jerry Springer was actually the least bad of the bunch, it had its tongue firmly in its cheek and nearly all the guests clearly understood the point is for them to look act/crazy and get laughed at and they were cool with that

DAMN THAT TRACK IS HOT

THAT'S GOTTA BE KANE (IS BACK) (AGAIN)

RIP Robin

SPACE FORCE!

(space, space, space, force!)

SPACE FORCE!

Re: Jeremy Bloody Kyle...

It shouldn't have took someone committing suicide for the show to be cancelled by ITV.

Re: Jeremy Bloody Kyle...

That's awful. I thought every guest on the show was an actor like with Jerry Springer.
