That I didn't do good enough is probably my only real answer.

eh i feel like math is a good way for the adults to weed out the bright kids from the not so bright ones. we all remember those kids in 2nd grade who couldn't perform simple math. safe to say they aren't graduating at the top of their class or running any fortune 500 companies.

unless your profession demands it sure you probably won't ever have to apply pythagorean theorem in your daily life, but again it's an exercise in testing students and seeing who is capable of solving more complex equations.

I use that theory every day just about. Mainly finding resultant vectors.

Re: What is 1 unpopular opinion you have on education?

At a fundamental level, being taught to open your mind to different modes of thought and possibility' and the methods needed to truly study something and write reports and papers is something more valuable than it's cracked up to be.

"You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait."

"I backed him. You can see how loyal he is. He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, 'Mitt, drop to your knees.' He would have dropped to his knees."

"You oughta see this guy - 'uh, I don't know what I said, uh, I don't remember,'"

“I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”

"He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."

Measuring “brightness” by one field alone is ignorant. Plenty of intelligent people struggle with math.

Thanks for the wonderful memories Ultimate Warrior... happy you got to be recognised as the legend you are before you went. Rest in peace

Chess should be mandatory for all students for at least one year (exemptions for learning disabilities obviously).

You believe is your thinking and the way that you think about the catcher in the rye ducks may be you are going in the right way to protect the high school. A lot of the students start his job after the high school.

Re: What is 1 unpopular opinion you have on education?

Drop the useless crap in school like art, drama and music. That stuff is a hobby, only a select few ever really make a career out of those subjects. Increase the focus on more useful stuff. If people want to do those subjects because they have a passion for them then they can take it up outside of school.

for example, languages are great but make it useful, I learned stuff like "what is in your pencil case?" instead useful stuff like directions. I cannot ask a french person "where is the train station?" but I can ask them "when is your birthday?" or "do you have a rubber?"

same goes for other things. School taught me NOTHING about normal life. I learnt literally zero about paying bills, changing energy providers, understanding tax, best ways to save money etc. Its all stuff we will likely need and yet they will send everyone out in the world knowing how to study a shitty poem but nothing about how to live in society.

I think thats why many people are so lost in the years leaving school, it really does nothing to prepare you for normal life. You suddenly realise that 90% of what you learnt is fucking useless.

school should be fun in some aspects, granted but my best lessons for life did not come from there. School really did nothing for me besides give me a piece of paper to show I had some qualifications. Even that is flawed. How many people are academically intelligent but useless in the real world? same in the reverse. People really shouldnt judge you based on academic ability. Some people are really intelligent and great workers but just don't do well when it comes to theory. Those people are pushed aside for some twat who got an A in art but has no common sense simply because he can do well in a test.

Public schools are intentionally trying to dumb down the masses.
