The weekly prize will be something like “Match of the Week” or “Wrestler of the Week.”

I disagree it can happen in wrestling and work well. You just need to have a long term plan and stick to it.

The only issue is when there is injures and when that happens you need to figure how a storyline to explain something. For example Pac was never suppose to wrestle at All Out. But since Moxley got hurt they had Pac wrestle and win.

Pac was suppose to beat Page on first show. When he did that it made people question why Darby Allin/Jimmy Havoc got a number 1 contender match. When we seen Pac just beat Omega and Page. If Pac just returns and beats Page there's no questioning it. In that case they should have came up with Pac not being eligible or something to explain it.

Rather then just saying if he keeps it up he will get a title shot. When they keep track of wins and loses. Fans are gonna know who should be getting title shot anyways. So ranking system just confirms what fans know already. But if anything it also allows AEW to say what win means more then another.

PAC vs Page being #2 and #3 basically makes the winner of that the defacto #1 contender. With Mox vs Omega unsanctioned either should move, maybe both jumping ahead of PAC/Page loser. Of course we'll have Dynamite wins and losses to further consider as well before the next World Title defense.
Mox and Omega won't move at all because their match won't count in the win/lose record. That's why Mox was so upset about it being an unsanctioned match.

Should dark matches be rated differently than tv and ppv?

Could have a point system so someone in dark doesnt sneak up the rankings too fast...

1 point for dark matches, 2 for tv, 3 for ppv and such...

I like the ranking stuff, I'm a sports junkie, I just hope they do it well. It's their unique thing people say AEW needs. So far though it hasnt been a focal point outside of a few mentions (Mox's storyline now being centered around this)

I think theres a bit less freedom in certain situations... what if a dude with a pretty bad record gets hot all of a sudden? Injuries, ect. Records can help create stories and confusions in wrestling. I'm excited to see where it goes though

It amazes me how no wrestling company has ever really been able to do rankings correctly.

Hopefully AEW can do it right. It doesn't seem like it should be that hard to do in my opinion, but apparently it is judging by past attempts from other promotions.

Right, but loser of PAC/Hangman would drop down spots - meaning Hangman could drop behind Omega/Mox. Also if Mox/Omega doesn't count then potentially #6, whoever it is, with a win could jump ahead by whatever kayfabe metrics they have to decide the Top 5.

You mean Dark the television show, or non-televised, non-canon dark (small D) matches. The latter shouldn't even count at all - as it doesn't exist in canon. Same for eventual house shows - shouldn't count at all in wins and losses.

I do think quality of wins should matter - but that would be in the ranking system more than the pure W-L records. Strength of Schedule is a thing in college football rankings for example.

The ranking system + the midcard title I absolutely agree, it gives the midcard something to do. Definitely better than letting them be "the guys who can't fight for the world title and have a so so win loss record" this also boost the morale as they have a title to fight for but also! An opportunity to try and make it prestigious.
Call it "Elite Championship" have it be presented by a good legend. Make a very good tournament for the first one to hold it. But without the people in the top 5 of the ranking. It would be a great success

Just for the record, folks, this here is an example of one of those legitimate criticisms we keep hearing about that we should be able to discuss maturely and not respond to negatively. It needs to be pointed out because AEW fans are so overly-sensitive about anything sincerely critical of their precious wrestling promotion.

Might I also take this opportunity to introduce you to the newest entry on my ignore list.
