Dream vs. MJF - Who is the better prospect?

I'm not quite sure where to put this thread so I'm doing it here. Move it if need be.

Since Dream's feud with Aleister Black two years ago, almost everyone, me included, has raved about Velveteen Dream. We talk about his megastar potential constantly. Good look, totally unique character, very good talker, has had classic matches, etc. He's so good that he's one of the few guys who has had a great run in a 2019 NXT campaign that has, IMO been very disappointing. Despite that, he's still killed it. Every time, he goes in and kicks ass, win or lose, he's always interesting. And at 24 we keep raving about he's the future.

And then at Double or Nothing most of us see MJF for the first time and the conversation got a lot more interesting. Also 23, he might be the naturally best talker I've seen in many, many years. Not as unique a character but plays the dick heel better than almost anyone I've seen.

So, of these two guys in their respective companies, who do you think has the higher ceiling.

Dream is the more unique of the two in terms of look and character, but he has WWE creative hanging over him which is a major, major impediment that has a better chance than not of totally squandering him.

MJF isn't as unique and might not be as good a pure wrestler, but he's free and will improve.

Side by side, what do you guys think? Obviously, Dream will have more reach by default, at least for a good time, but it means little if creative botches him to death which is an unfortunate likelihood, so it's more even than we might think.

Re: Dream vs. MJF - Who is the better prospect?

MJF is far and away the best prospect in the world. Not a knock on Dream, he is badass and would be a coveted member of the AEW roster if he was here, along the same lines as Sammy and Hangman, but MJF has the potential to be the next great megastar in wrestling.

Re: Dream vs. MJF - Who is the better prospect?

I find MJF to be naturally into his gimmick. However, I would never expect him to be anything else than his. As much as I enjoy Dream, I feel almost all of his act is rehearsed and unnatural. I could see Dream reinventing himself and being better long term. Yet, if people start to get turned off to MJF, I don't ever see them coming around as I don't think he'll change. I don't think Dream will be a sexy, Prince like character his whole career. But, I see MJF as the cocky heel for his whole career and it getting old in 1-2 years within AEW.

Because of that, I say Dream has the most potential.

I don't see it getting old that quickly. Miz has been around for almost 15 years with a similar character and fans still like him as much now as they ever did and as a performer, not his current babyface role.

Not really sure. On one hand Dream is more versatile but MJF is already elite in one aspect of the business. I suppose you could build around Dream more than MJF. But, why not both meme lol.

That's a good point. I really liked Miz when he was on talking Smack as a heel, and since then. Not much has changed except for who he directs his smart ass comments to. In fact, I only remember disliking Miz when he first turned face and was booked pathetic, having no reason to turn face.

I hope I stand corrected and MJF is the shiz for years to come.

Re: Dream vs. MJF - Who is the better prospect?

MJF ceiling in AEW is way higher than the one of the Dream in WWE (because WWE)

Re: Dream vs. MJF - Who is the better prospect?

I think Dream is the superior talent. Mjf cant sniff him in the ring. Doesnt have the look or atlethic ability of Dream. Both are good talkers with the nod going to mjf but in terms of presence/charisma I think dream is superior aswell. With that being said Dream is in wwe "where wrestling ends and talent dies" so Mjf has a way brighter future.

Re: Dream vs. MJF - Who is the better prospect?

well one is in the WWE and the other is AEW so......

obviously MJF. Who do i trust more to harness and grow their young talent better? AEW.

I think they've kept Velveteen Dream in NxT too long, to the point where i dont know where he goes from here. I think he's probably more talented than MJF but again.. give me the non-WWE talent every day of the week
