Women's Division Is The Biggest Issue Right Now

The women's roster is beyond bad apart from Riho.

Literally all of them are garbage, Baker is as bland as hell, Nyla is just boring, Bea i was excited for but the past two weeks she's stunk the place up, Penelope Ford is Yikes bad.

They dont seem to have any storyline's for Sadie Gibbs or Hikaru Shida.

Need to do something drastically over the next few weeks with gimmicks or what not.

Re: The one downfall so far...

I switched my attention during it tbh. The only thing I really know about the women's division is the dentist which I don't care for, a tiny Japanese champion and the big woman she beat last week. So far, the division is nothing to me. I don't care for anyone. Early days but it definitely needs something.

From AEW's POV it's a massive shame that Sasha Banks didn't quit even though she wouldn't be available yet anyway.

Re: The one downfall so far...

It's still a work in progress.

They have women that can go like Riho, Yuka, and others. They have their monser in Nyla. They have their American face of the division in Britt. They have their big heel in Bea. They still have Shida waiting the wings. That the pieces, it's just a question of are these pieces ready.

I think they need to start showcasing these women's personalities more. Do some vignettes telling us who these people are. Stuff like that. The women can work well enough (well, some of them can) but I feel like I can't connect with most of them yet. And to be fair, that takes time.

Riho is definitely one of the bad ones. It's too bad she won the title last week. That was the only low point of their debut. Hikaru Shida is the best they have, but she is nowhere to be seen at the moment. They really need to bring in Tessa Blanchard when her contract expires next year.

Even Riho is pretty cringe. Seems to me there is talent there just they are shining the light on the wrong people. I may be wrong but I haven’t seen anything special in any of the girls from japan. Nyla at least had a catchy phrase, “making riches breaking bitches.” Caught my attention once I heard it and haven’t heard it again. I understand omega has a thing for these girls but they need to go in a different direction. Just my opinion

Re: The one downfall so far...

Shida is their top women's wrestler. Period.

They even lost a natural babyface before TV started.

Going to have to give it a year or so to have a respectable women's roster. This is still Day 1.

They need to bring in some more people for sure. But it's just getting started. Let's see some angles develop before shitting on everyone, even though it's true that Riho is the only one that's inspired something to date.

I don't think that match between Riho and Baker is ending cleanly next week.

Shida is still on her never ending Joshi retirement for me, if she knew well in advance of her signing with AEW. She shouldn't have took more bookings imo. AEW should be her bread and butter. Yuka is a miss too, she's got a ton of personality and is good in the ring.

Gibbs is still a talent that's got a ton of potential but isn't going to make a massive difference. I think it doesn't help that her and Bea don't get along, supposedly, in real life. Bea is good but if she's in the ring with not so good talent she's just not at that point in her career to carry talent.

Nyla has potential, same with Ford who I don't think isn't as bad. Brandi, Leva and Allie are just there. Awesome Kong is way past her best. Kylie Rae is a miss as she was the only non Joshi talent that had some charisma.

I said it for weeks that the women's division needs some crazy work on it. Even getting in talent like Mercedes Martinez, Nicole Savoy, Priscilla Kelly, Ivelisse and looking in Europe for talent might help. Might not make it the best division but might make it look at least respectable.

Riho can't be in the spotlight forever or Britt or Bea.

Loving AEW so far, but the women's division is by far it's weakest part.

Re: The one downfall so far...

The only Joshi I feel works best for AEW is Shida. Riho I guess is a success because she's over...but in all honesty she's sort of a generic idol type underweight babyface pushed overly strong for her physique not unlike Alexa Bliss. I don't buy it. Which isn't to say she's still not better in the ring than Alexa, because she is. But she's not really great by Joshi standards either. She does have a sort of charisma though. It's a shame that Shida is still taking bookings in Japan because if they were going with any Joshi it should have been her.

The other indie type girls are mix of interesting ideas with bad ring work, or those with passable ring work but nothing else stands out. In general there's a lot of roughness all around, not many polished talents. Bea is the best of them all, and I'm saying this as someone who's not a fan of hers either. I feel like they could have gotten some better names in the indie scene.

Take away The Joshi talent and maybe Bea, it's very worrying TD. They really need to get some proper workers in cause they lack them badly outside Riho and Shida. Bea can hold herself in the ring when she's in there with a good worker. Britt looks a tiny bit better tonight when in there with good workers.

I'm hoping over the next few months they start adding more talent, I can understand if most are turning them down to go to NXT or something. But before the year is out, I'd like to see two or three good workers added to that division.
