In ring interview announcers for promos?

Should they have in ring interview announcers like they used to do ? How they always had the same person come out and hold the mic for you and you cut a promo ?They give a few quick facts. I feel like wrestlers always did better that way and the interviewer can always pull things back if things get lost. Like mean gene used to do or tony schiavone.

Since AEW hired him now i wonder what they will use him for. You cant have him do that and be a announcer calling the show.

If this simply should be in the AEW section my bad

I really hope so. JR would be outstanding in the Mean Gene role that you are describing. Let Tony carry the broadcasts and JR can join in on PPV.

I didn't grow up on that style so my gut says no. Though with the right person maybe it works. Thats something worth trying.

CVV would probably be used for such a role assuming he's comfortable in front of a crowd and live sorta deal. It's a better set up than just "Wrestler has a mic and time to talk" but rather an interview Q&A. These types are done back stage now to save time to and from the ring. Maybe a happy medium would be to do these on the entrance stage.

Something I've been toying with is post match interviews. Now it might get overdone and played out quickly but have CVV catch the winner and/or loser for a word as they go through the curtain backstage. Just for a couple quick questions before throwing it back to ringside announcers to transition to the next match or head to commercial break.

I also liked the Pulp Ficton scatterbrained interviews/promos that ECW television had at the end of it's television shows. Sort of merge that with NJPW mock interviews they have backstage after matches and have a mash up of post match reactions on a split screen at the end of the show while rolling credits. It would be tricky as it would have to be edited and put together during the 2 hour show to run at the end.

I like the idea of post match interviews, but have an area for them backstage with an AEW posterboard in the background. The only thing I hate about open mic promos is guy 1# interrupts, guy #2 interrupts, etc. And then a match gets booked. I hate that, it's absolutely a waste of time and would be better to just have all the matches booked before the show.

Post match on the ramp after a big Mach or angle would be perfect. don't need to overkill it and do it after every match tho.

Currently rewatching 1997 Nitro on the network I think in general that is a pretty good template on how to pace the show and switching up the commentary team at the top of the hour would be a neat touch

Re: In ring interview announcers for promos ?

Winners should get a post match interview on the ramp or the stage.

Losers should get a post match interview in an area to the side of the stage.

Differentiate between the two, kind of like how NJPW has winnerís lane, where they walk through the entrance or one aisle, and a loserís lane, where they exit through the side or another aisle.

I think in Ring interviews should be kept to a minimum. They can be done well, but they need the right person to pull them off, and if done poorly they can leave someone completely exposed.

Yes. I used to love those style of interviews when Gene would do interviews with the wrestlers on stage or in the ring. It gives a realistic, sports-type feel to the whole presentation. Again, if you have ways that can differentiate from WWE and how their production is done, you do it.
