What Could Chris Jericho's Legacy Be After His AEW Run?

I was having this conversation with a friend the other day, and while Jericho has always been seen as more of a 2nd tier star (under the likes of SCSA, The Rock, Cena, Undertaker etc.), how would his status be altered if he has a solid run in AEW?

He already headlined and won in the company's first show, he's in the title match in the 2nd show. What if he wins the title we look back at him being the first champion of a company that made a major impact in the Wrestling world?

It's a lot of hypotheticals given that there are so many unknowns, but would it be too far-fetched to say that this run could elevate Jericho to an all time legend status? Maybe even top 5/10 of all time?

When you couple his potential success in AEW, his time in WWE, and the incredible longevity he has had over the last 25 years, it's remarkable.

Re: What Could Chris Jericho's Legacy Be After His AEW Run?

I mean I guess it depends on how AEW does in the long run and how big it comes. But even if he becomes their first AEW Champion, which I think he will, I don't know if he moves any farther up the ladder when talking about who's the best of all time.

I don't think there's anything he could ever do to get closer to Austin, Rock, etc. He's pretty much set where he is. He's basically just continuing to add to his tremendous legacy where he has constantly reinvented himself and changed with the times.

I'll say this much, for as long as I've been a wrestling fan, he's one of the most adaptive wrestlers I've ever seen.

If he somehow manages to spearhead AEW into beating WWE, then that will put him in first tier. If AEW just does okay for itself and never gets into reach of competing with WWE, he'll remain in second tier.

He's already the JeriG.O.A.T, as long as he retires before he pulls a Blundermaker or an Oldturd, that's not going to change.

Shilling for Xia Li, Aliyah, Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley

the fact that hes formed and evolved into every promotion hes been in says enough.Plus he moves on when he says a good opportunity that comes

"If you want it bad enough you'll find a way, if you don't want it bad enough you'll find an excuse."

People seem to forget that he was one of the most over guys during a time that SCSA and the Rock were running around. His mic skills were bar none some of the best and one of the few who could go toe to toe with Rock on the mic.

Jericho has longevity and creativity on his side, he's outlasted so many people. He's lost a step due to age but still can put on a show. It's crazy how he can keep himself relevant without relying on nostalgia.

He's completely underrated.

People might argue he's a notch below Rock and SCSA as a promo, but he's a couple notches above them as a worker. Taking into account every aspect of wrestling: look, promo ability, character work, ring work, charisma, overness, kayfabe accomplishment, longevity, innovation, etc. there's nobody from my lifetime with a comparable resume.

Re: What Could Chris Jericho's Legacy Be After His AEW Run?

I think this right here will cement what tier of legend he is. If he can help be apart of AEW becoming even a stable in wrestling for decades to come then it knocks him up into that Austin Rock territory because you could argue "if Dad bod Jericho could make AEW a household name imagine if someone ran with prime Jericho". But if AEW goes the way of TNA or even worse folds it cements him as a legend, but one who wasn't the guy you build around.

He's already one of the very best of all time. So this is just another notch on his belt.
