Can somebody tell me where this illusion of Bryan and Punk main eventing Wrestlemania next year for the title has come from? I see it everywhere yet WWE has not even hinted at it or anything.
There was some report with the rumored Mania card, and it was something like Punk/Bryan, Taker/Brock, and Cena/HHH.
As far as the actual likelihood of the match... or that card happening as it is... I don't think is very high. However Punk and Bryan right now are by far the two most over babyfaces on the roster, and they're actually really close. Heck, the crowd reaction for their staredown at MITB this year says it all for how the fans would react to these two. I think the idea of it being a Hogan/Warrior-lite type of match (at least in terms of crowd reaction) and the fact WWE is completely separating them right now is probably what's causing the idea that their paths will eventually intertwine, and by Mania time, collide in a big face vs. face match for Mania, and if for the title, the main event.
The two main things working against it are:
1) Punk/Bryan has happened a number of times already, twice on PPV, and even though the atmosphere/feud for the potential Mania match would be different and probably better, it's hard to imagine a match between the two, at this point, being the main event of Mania. It could work though if they have Taker/Brock to actually sell the event/reel in some outside fans, but still...
2) This Corporation storyline should really lead to Bryan vs. HHH at Mania. HHH screwed Bryan at Mania and since then people have wanted Bryan (along with Show and now Rhodes) to get his hands on HHH, probably in a match. Mania would be the perfect time to do it and give Bryan a huge win, a win bigger than one over Punk would do. At this point in time as well, it makes a lot more sense than Punk vs. Bryan. If they went with this though, the only possible combo of matches I could see happening is Punk/Lesnar II and Taker/Cena (which isn't totally unbelievable, but it feels like all reports have hinted at Taker/Cena not happening and Taker/Lesnar almost definitely happening, so it does make me wonder what they'd do if not Taker/Cena in that case).
I do think one way or the other, we're gonna get Punk vs. Bryan, face vs. face, at one of the big 4 PPVs. When though? Not sure, but they should capitalize on the popularity of the two no later than Summerslam next year imo.
