Why do they have the women wrestle?

I don't think anyone enjoys womens wrestling, save for a few perverts and nerdy smarks.

I was watching an old Nitro from 1998, and they used women much better - have them dance between the breaks to keep things exciting, and use them as valets.

Is my view misogynistic? No. Why shouldn't women embrace their femininity and show off their beauty? Why do they have to act masculine and compete in these utterly pointless 2 minute wrestling matches, doing a lame mimic of a man's sport... Them doing so implies men are interesting and women are not, which is far from the truth.

Besides, no woman in history has ever got over because of her ring skills. Anyone who mentions the name Beth Phoenix or Natalya are just laughable. Compare their reactions to the likes of Sable, Trish or Stacy Keibler. I don't think anyone was popping for Sable because of her Sable Bomb :lol Yeah, Trish could wrestle better than most, but she only got over in the first place because she was hot

I think you're under the misconception that Women can't wrestle when some of them definitely can. It's just that a lot of them especially nowadays don't actually give a shit about wrestling and are more concerned with attaining a celebrity status which they can get very easily in the WWE. A lot of them actually put the work in to train and become a professional wrestler and have that passion for wrestling. Then there are others that just want to travel the world with big hunky guys at their disposal and wrestling is basically their last priority. AJ, Lita, Trish, Victoria, Gail, Kharma, Natalya, Beth and even Tiffany were all very solid workers and some better then others and some put the work into become better ala Trish and don't tell me that it didn't get them over because it definitely did. Then there arm others who use WWE as stepping stone into celebrity stardom and nothing more.

This is basically the premise of AJ's pipebombshell. Women's wrestling in the WWE, and the product in general(which Jerry Lawler doesn't pay attention to :dance), would be better off if WWE didn't use those kinds of girls. I honestly don't understand why they have done that when they have the talent to make a legitimate division besides AJ.

Some of us actually enjoy womens wrestling. Remember when Trish & Lita were the MAIN EVENT on RAW? That match was great! The womens division used to be better, but then again so did the entire roster. I'm sure there are some young girls that watch wrestling. Perhaps a current female wrestler is an inspiration to them.

This has to be the most obnoxious thread made in 2013 on WF.

You think there aren't females who enjoy males wrestling for both the wrestling and those men being sexy studs? Is there anything wrong with those females? No. What's wrong with being a dude who enjoys female wrestling AND those females being attractive? Nothing.

And your stupid views on masculinity and femininity are beyond ridiculous, professional wrestling takes athleticism and there's nothing wrong with being a female who wants to look athletic in the WWE. Soccer is a sport that is played best by dudes, does that mean chicks can't play it too? And there is no such thing as a sport that's exclusive to men. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Honestly its like you're saying femininity is all about trying to look sexy and that's it. Want some truth buddy? Both the concepts known as femininity and masculinity are moronic.I'd tell you that gender roles all together are dumb as hell, but you'd probably say some stupid shit about beauty being a thing only females can have.

You're not a misogynist, your mind is just based on stupid old fashioned garbage the world doesn't play by anymore and for good reason.

It's not a case of someone's mind being based on stupid old fashioned garbage the world STILL plays by....(don't say "the world" because there are some places that are even worse as far as attitudes toward women)

It's a matter of taste. I don't like Women's Wrestling because it sucks. I'm not entertained and never will be entertained by MODELS who would rather be on an FHM mag or something than actually hone their craft in wrestling.

Oh and the reason it's seemingly more supported in Japan is because of the Martial-Arts aspect of it(at least that's what I believe anyway)....not to mention that the women there aren't dolled-up like they're going to a fashion-show.

"Why do they have the women wrestle?"

So we have the opportunity to piss, shit, get a drink, etc. in order to be ready for the worthwhile parts of the show.
That's what commercials are for.

This thread is so sad, and I don't mean the original post, I'm talking about most of the replies. Holy shit it's like talking to PC Plum. What I gathered from the OP was that wrestling is there for men, which is true. You argue that we're being progressive and whatnot but that's bollocks, isn't it? I mean genuinely, a woman's wrestling match just looks awkward. It's not about their skills, and it's not even about sexism here. Oh and also, I don't care how much you tell me I'm wrong, there is NO chance that AJ Lee is over because of her 'in-ring ability', it's because neck beards need someone who looks attainable thus why she's so 'hot' just now.

ITT - Guys that pretend they don't like looking at women for their beauty.
You can easily make the same case for the guys in your own signature. Do Randy Orton and Batista not have their fair share of women (or even men for that matter) being drawn to them for their looks? Are you aware of the amount of times Batista has been sloppy in the ring and made the matches "awkward" with his botching and overall laziness? I guess it's okay though, because you've been indoctrinated into the mentality that this a man's thing! That's quite a double standard. Basically, you're implying that in general, all women's wrestling looks clumsy without providing any other reason than the fact that they're women wrestling! How is that not sexist? :lmao This thread alone has proven that people DO appreciate female talent in the ring. It is you who's making shit up and accusing them of being dishonest because you refuse to accept it.

As for the second quote, you do know that you can appreciate a woman's beauty without viewing her as nothing more than an object who's only good for her looks, right? If you don't, I honestly pity you.

op ask a legit question and then proceeds to get bashed for it...he's made solid points and expressed why he believes that women's wrestling should take a backseat within the "WWE". he didn't bring up the amazing women's wrestlers in japan, mexico, tan knockouts, etc...he specifically stated "WWE DIVAS". the divas division as a whole is awful. sure natalya, aj, kaitlyn, and even naomi hop in the ring for the wrestling aspect but do you really expect three to four divas to carry an entire division? bellas, camron, eva mendez, the new girls, aksana, alicia fox, etc. are all shit inside of the ring. you people forget that lita and (the overrated) trash stratus did not single handedly carry the division during their time.

I actually enjoy TNA women's matches (tho not as much past few weeks) becaue they fight for more than 2 minutes. It could be decent but wwe fucks it up so bad. 1 minute Alicia fox is unstoppable then she jobs to everyone. Thats just an example they just rotate 1 diva as unstoppable while all the others job out then switch

Because in the 1920s, women banded together and decided that whatever men could do, they could do equally as well, and deserved the opportunity to do so.

Which is ludicrous. I'd like to see a woman pee standing up or move heavy furniture like a man. We own that shit.

I have watched some really solid matches with women involved, but I would have to say that the WWE's version of Women's Wrestling is just awful. Most of the time it's a joke because in the end we can't kid ourselves. AJ Lee vs Kaitlyn in the ring isn't going to be 5 star caliber. Women's Wrestling just isn't that popular in the States, and neither is the WNBA, or really any other female sport. We have been conditioned to think that women don't belong in athletics, but in reality they do, but I don't have to lie to myself, and say it's entertaining. I would rather see two women kiss, or wrestle in oil, rather than being serious over a "Butterfly" title.

I can enjoy a good women's match, but having said that, it's never been big here in the states. A good argument could be made for getting rid of it. What's hilarious is the U,S. is historically more progressive than Japan, and yet the latter supports women's wrestling and the former doesn't.

Weird.

First of all, you seem to be under the impression that using "quotation marks" somehow proves a point, they don't, and your pathetic attempt at being patronizing make me cringe. Second of all, what the fuck is a men's sport? I'd hate to be the person who has to break this to you, but limiting activities to certain genders is most certainly misogynistic. Thirdly, if women's wrestling is barbaric, why isn't men's? Wrestling is a type of performance, the connotations do no change depending on the gender of the performers. Lastly, and most importantly, it's progressive because people's opportunities to perform should not be limited by their gender.

TNA is amazing if you want to watch good woman wrestling the WWE Divas are just barbies catfighting in the ring expect for AJ of course.

Bigger question is why do YOU hate women's wrestling so damn much? It's not like a lane comedy sketch like Hornswoggle or Santino. And if they scrapped the division they might face a backlash. They're not horrible half the time anyways.
