When do you think Brian Gerwitz (head writer) jumped the shark?

Brian Gerwitz is the head writer who was there when they did JBL vs Cena in 04/05. He wrote the awesome Evolution angle with Batista turning on HHH and winning the title at Mania.

He was also the head writer when they blew up Nexus without any explanation in 10/11. He was the head writer when they had the anonymous GM, the lackluster Raw 1000, the AJ/Bryan wedding....

Of course it's always Vince who has the final word but it seems to me like Gerwitz went from writing great stuff in 04/05 to just god awful stuff in 10/11.

The "CM Punk walks out with the belt" angle was probably his last stroke of genius.

Wasn't this the same guy who wrote more than half of The Rock's catchphrases?

I'm pretty sure Punk stipulated on that happening when signing his contract. The Summer of Punk '11 was a hint at the Summer of Punk back in RoH where he won the belt, signed his WWE contract on the belt and threatened to leave RoH with their title.

I doubt it . Was Punk ever in any great angles in ROH? I doubt it

I worded that wrongly, I meant to say I'm sure Punk was thinking of walking out but after coming to terms on a new contract he did lay down his own scripts. There was a thread on how Punk/Cena have control over their characters and do change the writer's work if they feel it wrong.

Ultimately, I'm sure the entire thing was not Gerwitz's brainchild and even if it was, it was most certainly borrowed from RoH.

For someone with a Punk sig you should do your research... For one, there was the angle where he signed his WWE contract over the ROH title, which I think was briefly mentioned above.

But back then I'm sure someone wrote ROH. I know Cornette worked there for the while. I'm not going to give the benefit of the doubt to CM Punk when it comes to writing storylines.

Re: When do you think Brian Gerwitz (head writer) jumped the shark?

I'd say Gerwitz jumped the shark with the Steph pregnancy angle, which coincided with her actual pregnancy at the time. I mean, hearing Vince refer to her as "that BITCH!" from time to time got to be cringeworthy in a hurry.

Marking For: Ricardo Rodriguez, Paul Heyman, The Shield

Not removing until...

  • ADR vs. Ricardo at WM XXX!!!

Mad Props To THE FOURTH WALL For This Crazy Sig!
