Re: CM Punk: was he shoved down our throats in the past year?

It's not shoving it down your throat when everybody wants it. In fact, give me Punk as champion for another 428 days and counting. I want to like my world champion, dammit, right now I do, let's not go changing that.

Episode 90 - New Spider-man, Terminator & Arkham Knight

What a week for all the things we talk about! A new Spider-man, news on a solo Batman film, Suicide Squad and Star Trek (Track). Plus we get into Batman: Arkham Knight and what we sort of remember from all the Terminator movies. Thanks for listening!

Now, RAW has fans to lose, and its losing em. And it has no competition. So logically, its much much worse than it was in 1997. A 2.2 with no competition is worse than a 2.2 with gargantuan Time Warner competition. It's like being turned down by a prostitute.

CM Punk was rammed down our throats. And this is worse than even Cena being rammed down our throats. Because Cena ia a guy you can love to hate. Punk can neither solicit hate nor excitment. He can solicit neither heat nor pops. Dead heat is worse than bad heat. Cena has X-Pac heat, which is WAY higher up the status chain than dead heat.

I'm sure every year its Cena and this past year was no different. This year its either going to be Cena or Ryback

Whilst you're fully entitled to your views on CM Punk's drawing power to say that he can neither elicit heat nor pops is just plain wrong. He consistently gets a strong reaction from the crowd (albeit a strongly pro-Punk reaction which isn't helped by his adversaries being massively overpushed (Ryback, Cena and Sheamus) and him being booked to appear an underdog against the unstoppable "forces of good"). As a face I would go as far as to say he got one of the best if not the best reactions and crowd support in a long period for a face.

Considering that crowds have become so passive and quiet in recent years the reactions and heat he regularly gets is pretty remarkable. So to say he cannot garner heat is factually incorrect.

Compared to the vast majority of the roster Punk has provided numerous exciting moments and if this forum is anything to go by(quite debatable to be fair) he regularly gets viewers excited for his segments. Instead of Punk who do you think should be in that spot?

Marking out for:
-Orton, Ziggler, Seth Rollins
-AJ Styles, Alex Shelley, Kenny Omega
-CFC - Drogba, Zola, Gudjohnsen,
-Condit, Weidman, Rashad, Arlovski
-GOT, The Flash, PoI, Black Sails,
-NYG - Eli, Strahan, OBJ

On the Bandwagon of:
-Balor, Zayn, Breeze, Banks
-Swagsuke, Okada, Shibata
-Mundo, Angelico, Cage, Mil Muertes,
-Rumble, Cerrone, Thatch,
-AoS, The 100, Daredevil
-Froch, GGG, Frampton, Fury, Wilder
-LAC - CP3, Blake

So, you don't like CM Punk, so you superimpose your perception onto everyone else? Punk is second only to Cena in merch and ratings. So, he does elicit a reaction. A pretty big reaction. Blame the ppl with LOWER viewership/merch than Cena and Punk before you blame the leaders. Blame Orton, Sheamus, and Del Rio, don't blame the guys that stand out as popular and successful with fans. Lol its like all the ppl blaming Cena for low ratings. Go look at the segment-by-segment breakdown, and Cena's the biggest effect on viewership. Blame the ppl who follow Cena for the ratings drop one segment later. Same goes for Punk, just to a lesser extent. Don't blame the best (and Cena and Punk ARE the best)

And they're not losing viewers in record numbers, they have record low viewers, which is a big difference, because viewership has been falling consistently since Austin's big injury in November 1999. Shit needs to turn around already, but if that's Punk's fault then its also Cena's, Orton's, Batista's, Undertaker's, and Triple H's fault. Its worst now, but its been falling consistently.

WWE favorites: Punk, Sheamus, Lesnar, Ambrose, Rollins, Reigns,
Del Rio, Orton, Bryan, Ziggler, Wyatt, Usos, Cesaro, Mysterio, Kane
DGPW: Doi, Yoshino, Tozawa, Yamato, Dragon Kid, BxB Hulk, Ricochet, Super Shisa
NJPW: Okada, Nakamura, Styles ROH: Briscoes, Fish and O'Reilly, Young Bucks
All-Time: Rock, Punk, Lesnar, Angle

The only thing shoved in everyone's throats is called Cena. You can add to him AJ for the past year.
