If anything creative is hurting Wade Barrett, his in ring work is fine in my opinion, I just hate his new finisher. He should just have “The Winds of Change” as his maneuver. Barrett is still performing like he did before his gimmick change.

No, but the guy just can't make his finisher looks good.

He was never a great in-ring worker but was always a good brawler so having a gimmick which plays on that is a good move.

It's happening...

Re: Wade's new gimmick is it hurting him in ring wise?

He's fine in the ring. Nothing great, but nothing bad either. His gimmick isn't really hurting that as brawling is his strong suit.

The problem lies in the fact his character is virtually the same character he had before, only now he tapes up his hands for matches and has a new finisher.

TBH, I don't get why he doesn't use Winds of Change as his finisher. It can come from virtually anywhere, it's fun to watch and it looks effective. The Souvenir is fine if the guys sells it really well (like Zach Ryder does), and wasteland looks strong on smaller guys, but Winds of Change would work on anyone pretty much and look effective enough.

As for his whole character, it would've been nice if he didn't just keep facing jobbers week after week even when he said he wouldn't. It would be nice if he got on the mic and didn't refer to the "Barrett Barrage" (which while I like the name, is a strong link to his old-self) and it would be nice if he changed his ring attire as well. What he looked like in those video packages with the jeans, no tape, etc. would look awesome and really fit the character, especially since that's what we saw in the video.

Of course that's only a start. He'd need to be put in proper main event feuds as well as treated like he's a threat to someone like Sheamus or Cena, which to this point he has not.

I'm watching you...

Re: Wade's new gimmick is it hurting him in ring wise?

Barrett's greatest asset is his ability to speak on that mic. So many all-time greats didn't put on anything more than a plodding, 10-15 minute match but everyone wanted to see them because of how they could build that match and drew the crowd into it. Wade has that, but he hasn't really been given a chance to shine like that since the Nexus / Cena feud.

Maybe getting buried under a stack of chairs wasn't the best way to finish that off.

I don't think so, he seems better in my opinion. I like that he seems to be embracing the brawler style more, seems more hard hitting and his matches have been good since his return.

I disagree on the finisher, it looks deadly to me and would hurt a whole hell of a lot more than Wasteland and the Boss Man Slam he used prior to his return.

I wouldn't call his return a gimmick change either to be honest, he's always been a tough english bare knuckle brawler, they've just been emphasizing it more.

You can tell creative is already getting lost as to what to do with his character.

Lame.

Yeah you’re right about the gimmick statement, I meant to be more detail about how he is now defined as a bare knuckle brawler more. Also yeah personally I’m just not a fan of the Souvenir and it only look impactful if he is doing it against the right opponent such as Zack Ryder.

They didn't know what to do with him ever since he joined The Corre.
