just wondering if other people feel like that overall Sheamus is better as the guy chasing the title.

regardless if you like him anyway or not. i didnt really like him as the unstoppable champion. kind of seemed unfulfilled, didnt have anything to work for. now when ever he goes out to the ring he has a purpose.
not saying i love the guy, but do kind of like him better

better as champion or contender?

Definitely a contender/chaser. For the first time in a long time, I haven't been fast-forwarding when Sheamus is in my screen.

He's still as awful as ever, but I'll gladly take boring, awful, unlikeable wrestler who ISN'T champion over boring, awful, unlikeable wrestler who IS champion. Obviously.

I still can't get behind this guy, there's nothing to like regardless of if it's heel or face, champion or challenger. He's as forced a push as it gets. You got to be REAL bad for me to get behind Big Show in a feud.

Underdog gimmick always brings about a feel good moment when he overcomes the obstacle. Thing is you can only use it so many times I.e. Cena

As of right now the answer may be a general yes but what does the future hold if they stay in this direction

You can't be chasing and always be cracking lame ass jokes - so that's why he's a better challenger. He's booked as being more serious, so he doesn't have to talk about his uncle or say "arse" in every promo.

If he could be the Irish hooligan who loves a good fight he'd have been a good champion.

But they make him Cena-lite, with the embarrassingly lame funny man routine and the superman booking.

The whole thing about Sheamus' Brogue Kick being too week and too low to impact Big Show — who would simply catch his foot in mid-air — was excellent writing.

It came right out of the Orton-Henry feud in which Randy Orton's RKO was set up as being unable to touch Mark Henry on account of his sheer size, and it worked brilliantly to create the tension necessary to carry their matches.

It's necessary to have a heel who appears to have the face's number in some way or another, be it psychological or physicial or both, if you want the audience to really invest in the feud. Because it's no fun knowing that the main face is going to mow down his opposition no matter what.

Vulnerability is the key.

I don't like Sheamus one bit, therefore I prefer him as the chaser.

He'd make a much better heel. I don't like this cheesy goofy persona he has going on. He could be in the top 3 heels behind Punk and if rumors are to be believed, Orton.

Between the two? Challenger.
