What is this forum's obsession with heels beating faces clean?? It rarely happens and usually only happens to older faces, not to faces currently on top of the company.
This has been my thought exactly.
Throughout the history of pro wrestling, it really is quite uncommon for heels to get clean wins over top faces. Those that do get those clean wins, are typically beastly heels that are booked as unstoppable monsters who destroy everyone in thier path. That, of course, gives in to the storyline of the top face finally overcoming the beast that kept him down.
Ric Flair is arguably the most successful (championship wise) heel in modern wrestling, and during his heel championship runs, it was very unusual for him to win cleanly. Particularly during his run with the Four Horsemen, as outside interference was a staple of the stable in protecting thier top man when he had the belt. He was also quite well known for using foreign objects, and more notable in his latest runs in WWE, was his use of the "hidden" low blow as a way to get himself over the competition.
Clean wins really do seem to be overrated these days. There's no reason for a heel to win fairly. They are heels, after-all. Thier job is to make us hate them. What better way to do that than to that than screw over the guys we're "supposed" to root for? Credibility be damned. A heel that wins cheap is just as credible as one that wins clean. Either way they do it, they can still get the win. And it really shouldn't matter how it's done, as long as there's the knowledge that they can go over anyone at any time, by any means necessary. That fact alone should
make it more meaningful when a face goes over them.
