CM Punk conspiracy
So after watching the new CM Punk DVD, it seems as if WWE wanted to make it pretty clear how much of an underdog CM Punk has been throughout his entire wrestling career, especially in WWE. The Punk character undoubtedly benefited and still benefits from the fact that it's anti-corporate and has been forced to fight the system. The message is that CM Punk has been successful despite WWE's direction, not because of it.
Here's a thought. Do you think WWE planned all along to keep Punk down and keep him from the main event, even when he won the World Heavyweight title just to get him over? Or keep him down while he was the WWE champion? Deliberate or not, these actions have only fueled the Punk character and made it more real/believable. Who's to say that Punk himself hasn't been in on these plans from the start?
Imagine a creative meeting where they discuss the Punk character and it's long term success. "In order for it to succeed, we need to make sure that it has the clear motives to be upset with WWE management or else it will not be believable", someone might have said. "So how do we do that?" asks another person. "Well, in this day and age, with the Internet and all, it's becoming harder to keep the fans intrigued. But if we keep this guy down despite his talent and even when he's the champion, then the fans will start to get behind his anti-corporate persona and then we will see the start of something huge."
Am I giving WWE too much credit here or are they a lot smarter than most of us believe they are?
