Where were they going with Punk/Lawler?

They were building up this feud with Punk and Lawler that may or may not continue, but I'm wondering if it was all leading up to RAW in Tennessee next month. Punk seemed to be making a lot of historical references in his taunts of Lawler, and really playing up his time in Memphis. I wonder if the plan was for Lawler to finally beat Punk's ass in front of a home crowd, and maybe retire on the spot. I wonder if we'll ever find out how the heart attack changed the planned storyline. I fully expect Lawler to appear on RAW next month, but he won't wrestle. As an aside, when Lawler comes back, they can do basically whatever they want to his character, playing up a near-death experience. Some of y'all like to hate on him, but I'd like to see him somehow go out in an epic way. I just have too much sentimentality for the guy.

No where.

I don't know when Lawler will be back, but for the sake of his health they will put him on low key. The WWE certainly is not going to let him wrestle for a good few months.

Yes, I agree, but that wasn't really my question. I'm wondering what the plan was for this storyline, and what is being derailed by his health issues. I assume they were planning something big for RAW in Nashville in honor of the King. Of course, no one on here will know the answer, so it's just speculation.

I actually think they were gonna go with Jerry Lawler as the special guest referee at Hell In A Cell.

They should just forget this feud. Lawler is in no condition to get involved in any storyline right now.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that this "feud" is over. Obviously, Lawler won't wrestle in a WWE ring anytime soon. But, that does not mean he can't exchange words with Punk. They are still trying to establish Punk as a heel, verbally attacking Lawler would get massive heat. Lawler is old school, he would probably be all for it.

Re: Where were they going with Punk/Lawler?

they were just using lawler to get Punk cheap heat. It was going nowhere. Not to sound cruel, but it's almost a good thing that lawler is out right now. It forces Punk to get heat in some other way than the way EVERY HEEL has gotten heat in recent memory.

For some reason WWE loves to put Lawler against main eventers. I guess in their eyes whoever faces Lawler becomes the next Austin.
