I've noticed if ever I mention Kofi Kingston, the responses are mostly negative. I know he isn't the best in ring performer on the roster but the guy is the closest to main event talent WWE has at the moment.
I thought Kofi had his big moment when he splashed Orton thru the table at MSG. Suddenly, that was halted, as many on here attributed it to Kofi missing his cue. So if Kofi is part time wrestler, part time sound guy, I understand.
Then, it appeared he and Evan Bourne where bring legitimacy back to the tag team division. Evan fails a wellness test and Kofi is dropped down a notch once again.
The problem is, WWE has no true main event faces. Feuds/matches have been done to death. IMO, the best thing that could happen to further talent would be for Cena and Orton to turn heel. If not Orton, at least Punk. That way, Kofi can get a chance to excel on the main event scene, Rey will be back and we get new matches or at least matches from a different perspective.
As for my title question, why do people hate Kofi Kingston so much?
Just kidding, in all honesty I don't hate the guy. Hes a great talent. I don't know about him being generic. He has a great look and ability. Also, its nice to see a black superstar who doesn't have a gangster gimmick (I know, I know, Mark Henry doesn't, and I really don't know what the hell R-Truth is about)
Kofi the performer. Nothing not to like, save a lack of edge. Aside from one flub which was hard to notice with Cena in ring, his promos are fine. His look is good, the dreads included. You can be black with dreads without being jamaican. I do it everyday. In the end the only valid reason to dislike the performer is how green he is, politically. Which can be blamed on the performer as much as external forces.
Kofi the character. Fuck that jafakin, shuckin and jivin, always losing to give wwe's newest pet project a proper rub, pandering, characterless, void of persona.
So...yes. In short. Yes, people don't hate Kofi. Yes, they hate the extension of WWE creative that is Kofi. Yes, that holds true for most if not all of the roster.
I don't. I love him. He is good in the ring, underrated on the mic, has a nice look and is marketable. The only thing he lacks if you ask me is size. Unlike other stars he can also elicit a response from the crowd.

Mainly it's creative's fault for giving him such a terrible, happy-go-lucky character.
But wait, there's more - let's not forget the fact that his entrance music/gimmick hasn't changed... Ever(as far as I can remember). His birthplace has changed from Jamaica to Ghana for absolutely no reason. He flops around incessantly in and out of the ring which is annoying as HELL to watch. He ALWAYS smiles and never shows any form of frustration/anger/raw emotion/aggression. His finishing move is terrible, as is his signature move. I cannot stand everything about Kofi Kingston, and this is not a troll reply because I seriously think he could go somewhere given the right creative direction.
Everytime I see Kofi Kingston, I press fast forward. Just like when I see Funkasaurus.
Think about all the shitty booking he's had, the fact that he never gets any mic time to build up his character, the stop start pushes he's has and then listen to the reaction he gets when he comes to the ring. It's insane that he is so over when WWE has given the audience no reason to care about him and he hasn't work hard getting himself over off camera like Ryder did. That in itself for me is reason to give him a push, he is incredible marketable to WWE's biggest audience; kids, has a fast exciting in ring style that is not seen much in WWE and when given the small number of chances he has to get on the mic has shown that he can do just fine (see his feud with Orton)
WWE are desperate for new stars and I really don't think it would take much to turn Kofi into a legitimate star for the company. Sort out his gimmick, give him a chance to get the gimmick over and he could easily be a believable winner of the Rumble next year IMO
Kofi's a generic, smiling face. He's one of many, which doesn't help. I also think he coasts too often during matches. Kofi CAN wrestle, but he seems to want to do little but jump straight up in the air all the time. I don't "hate" Kofi, but he's far from being the "closest to main event level talent" the WWE has right now.
he reminds me of jeff hardy, and i hate jeff hardy, as a matter of fact he acts worse, he jumps around all giddy in his entrance, and he always wins as well, if we look at his w/l record it's very one sided, his finisher is a spin around kick, the boom boom thing, is almost as annoying as yes yes, overall i just dont like his gimmick, it sucks, not kofi

Yes, cause Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio and Lord Tensai OOOZEE charisma right?
Kofi is not a generic tyson kidd, justin gabriel type of wrestler-he's WAY better than that.
If you fail to see that, I'd hate to see what you consider better.
I don't dislike Kofi. As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for Orton verbally burying him, I think the man would have reached the Main-Event scene a while back.
Just having ambition in the WWE doesn't get you world titles. It all comes down to who the creative team and writers want to push. Kofi was on a roll in 2009 and was having a good feud with Orton. All it took was one botch and he's been stuck in mid card hell since.
I really was marking out for his first few matches on ECW - the Jamaican Me Crazy-Times. Also his IC-Title win on Night of Champions (against Jericho) is unforgettable.
But he NEVER developed further. He still does the same stuff. Although he always brings some innovative in-ring stuff from time to time (walking with a broken ladder like with crutches, handstand in the RR - great stuff...).
I always like to refer to his youtube-vid where he talks as a anti-american-heel.. i think it would be a great thing to try (but the creatives in WWE are just obviously not creative enough ).
I don't understand why we get boring ass ADR, Sheamus as World Champion, a Jack Swagger title reign and tons of other boring bullshit, while I can only remember 1 actual storyline involving Kofi and I don't why Orton had to resort to burying him. I'm a Orton fan but that was bullshit.
I've been told Brodus deserves a push before Kofi. It just doesn't make sense how WWE refuses to get behind such a talented guy or why the majority of the IWC dislikes him for being a smiling face. I know now, the IWC only likes heels.
But as for the babyface main event scene, they are really lacking. While not the best wrestler, Kofi definately can add to the main event scene, even as a heel. But people here hate everything the non IWC likes.
Am I weird because I like what the IWC doesn't like, yet I'm a member of the IWC?
That looks like it could really work. Kofi seems interesting as a heel and looks weird without dreads.
I've seen you in to seperate threads addressing me and the only comments you make regard me supporting Kofi. I'm not saying Kofi is the greatest but he deserves a chance. The number 3 guy you are marking for is the most boring main eventer of all time. ADR sucks. I guess you are entertained by a Hispanic JBL, a lame attempt at one anyway.
He's a generic face that always smiles, high fives the crowd, and get's beat up for 95% of the match. It's so annoying god dammit. Although I do appreciate his althletics. He just needs a new gimmick, simple as that.
Hey needs to go back to being the type of character he was when he was fueding with Orton. If he can get back to that, coupled with his in-ring talent, he could be a great face for the company. I've always wanted to see Kofi pushed as a Main Eventer...but certains things must happen before that comes along.
I think Kofi Kingston has great in ring ability, but its the smiley, goody two shoes character that I find bland, in the same way that I found R Truth really boring before he turned heel then he became interesting for me. That said Kofi's character is more geared towards the kids anyway
I don't think people dislike him too much. He's a great wrestler that loaded with charisma but he can only get so far with his generic smiling babyface schtick.
