Re: Jobber putting new heel star over?
No "it" factor for Ryder? If anything, Ryder is one of the few guys that does have the "it" factor going for him. Plenty of guys in the WWE get TV time, promos, etc, but none of them has had the effect Ryder has had on the audience. When's the last time you heard the name of a midcarder get pops as big as Ryder?
The bottom line: Whether you like him or not, whether you can "take him seriously" or not doesn't matter. The WWE can decided on how serious Ryder is, and frankly they'd do well to make him really look like a threat in the ring considering he's one of a few superstars who can get a crowd reaction in an era that features mass amounts of dead crowds.
He pretty much got squashed by Del Rio tonight. Stupid move. Del Rio winning is good booking, but it's this idiotic idea of "He's just a US Champion contender, he shouldn't really stand a chance" that kills credibility. I remember seeing World Heavyweight Champion Triple H take on Tajiri sometime back in 2003-2004 and while you never believed Tajiri could possibly beat Triple H, you at least got the idea that, within kayface, anybody could win at any given time. That in a professional wrestling company, a person's place on the card doesn't determine whether they can beat someone or not in kayfabe. Squash matches happen, sure, but usually when the person squashing is someone who is immensely powerful I.E. Kane, Mark Henry, Brock Lesnar, even Triple H.
But on the topic of Ryder, he easily has more charisma than most of the roster, he has the size and the look. It remains to be seen whether he really has the mic skills or the mat skills to be THE top guy, but he's not absolutely horrible in either department from what's been seen of him. Hopefully he continues to improve.
