Alberto Del Rio nearly quit World Wrestling Entertainment not that long ago, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Apparently Del Rio wasn’t makeing much money and was gearing up to return to Mexico, where he had cemented himself as a star. This of course, was about the time WWE put him on the road and planned vignettes from him. Believe it or not, Del Rio received bad reviews from his time spent in the WWE developmental system.

Good to see he decided to stick around. I'm looking forward to his career really getting started. The man is entertaining as hell, and his smirk is priceless.

Re: Top Star Nearly Quit Company

From what I could gather concerning his FCW run, he had difficulty in adapting to the "WWE style" after years of working elsewhere. It reminds one of, say, how Chris Jericho had a fairly hard time adapting back in 1999 and 2000.

He's still improving in his application of the "WWE style" on Smackdown, but he definitely has the talent to make the full transition.

It's great that he stayed put because he's on his way to becoming a big star in WWE.

Arm bar as submission finisher >.< I'd say midcarder though.
First of all an arm bar is a very painful thing in real life, so props to ADR for using a submission finisher that would actually hurt. Along with the way that ADR does the flipping over into the arm bar makes it even better, in that he can lock it in out of no where.

All of that aside though, in pro wrestling, it's not about whether the move looks like it actually hurts, it is about how it is sold. Thus far, everyone he has put that arm bar on has not gotten up, has walked away injured(kayfabe), or has tapped out. I think WWE is smart to have him use a finisher like the arm bar, because it is a great way for a heel to get even more heat when he wins by making fan favorites tap out. Or as Matt Striker likes to refer to it as, "the Cross Arm Breaker". Whatever Striker...

None of which makes him a "top star". It makes him a pushed midcarder with a gimmick entrance.
Right now he's a top guy on Smackdown! Whatever you want to believe is fine by me, but I'm not going to sit here and have a back and forth with you about a fucking thread title.

Re: Top Star Nearly Quit Company

I havent seen him wrestle a whole lot, since I dont get to watch smackdown very much (i go out on Fridays). But what I have seen, he is pretty good and I LOVE his character. Having his own announcer, the cars, the pyro, the cheezy "look at how great i am" poses and whatnot. its great. he really sells it up and wwe is doing a great job with him.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks he's boring as hell?

Re: Top Star Nearly Quit Company

Del Rio is extremely overrated, and reminds me of a Spanish "Soap Opera" star. Alberto belongs in Mexico, so get back over the fence you lifetime mid-carder!
Dude ur just a fucking racist.

Well it's good they kept him though, he is one of the greatest wrestlers on SmackDown IMO

Re: Top Star Nearly Quit Company

More like future top star, or potential top star. He's not a top star yet, and he's not a main eventer. Just because he beat Mysterio clean doesn't mean he's a main eventer, Kennedy beat Shawn Michaels clean...hell, Kozlov beat The Undertaker clean. So, yeah. Nor is he a midcarder, he's an upper mid carder. Kaval and Dolph Ziggler are midcarders and Del Rio is way above that level. He could be world champion any time in the next 6 months, tbh.

In any case though, it's nice to know he stayed.

That report is mostly BS. I thought it was common knowledge that he nearly walked because he wanted creative control of his character, the main factor being he wanted to wear his mask. Considering he actually wore it in an MMA fight because he whined so much but gave into the WWE shows that he is actually being paid a considerable amount of money.

Re: Top Star Nearly Quit Company

he will be a top dog by this time next year but as much as i like del rio i dont think you can call him anything above a mid carder at the moment when he hasnt even had a ppv match yet ...

Yeah, I don't see why people have to make such a big deal about it. I'm pretty sure they knew what you meant by top star. But off topic a little, who is that girl in your avatar?

But anyways, Alberto Del Rio certainly seems like he is on his way to being star in the company. He certainly has the potential. He is good on the mic and he is getting a lot of heat already. He hasn't really had a chance to show what he has in the ring. But as you know this is the WWE and as long as you have charisma and can work the stick you can get pretty far.

Del Rio is a top-star though, he's getting pushed even faster than Sheamus, get a lot of mic time and draws more than most WWE maineventers. You know he ain't some random newcomer if he can make demands before even going on TV and getting what he wants, I don't see random nobodies getting the Triple H/Cena Treatment everyday.

Ah, that's the choice many have to make on their professional lives.

Would you prefer be the head of the tuna, or the tail of the whale? Be the one in a small business, or another one in a megacorp?

In Del Rio's case, things are more complicated, as CMLL is a huge promotion, and there's plenty of performers on WWE with less space than he's having right now.

That said, a feud with Swagger or MVP would do great for all involved
