Wow! I was totally shocked to hear such depth in last night's explanation of the Charlotte vs Natalya angle. Granted it had nothing to do with either of those two ladies, it was still interesting to hear some history explained. The referee involved in their match was criticized for this count during Sunday's PPV match for the WWE Women's title. Lil' Nature Boy as he was called has a history with Ric Flair dating back to their corrupt WCW days.
If only the WWE could use this type of creativity in other story lines. Over the years I have noticed the WWE ignore so much wrestling history. Whether it be rekindling old angles, characters, or even old PPV names. This company has ignored it's past and I am not sure why. Granted the example I gave you with this current angle involving Charlotte and Natalya and their crooked referee. I was literally stunned to hear the WWE explain this side story. It blended well with what they are apparently trying to accuse the referee of. The only problem is this. Who cares about the referee?
All seemed forced and didn't make sense whatsoever to me. The match was just confusing, as they were trying to fit a non-kayfabe moment into a storyline, and it ruined the ending for the match for me personally.
The only problem I have is that Charles Robinson has been a WWE official for more than a decade now and has called all WWE matches (including Ric Flair's) down the middle. The fact they are trying to link Robinson to Charlotte through Ric is kinda absurd. Especially when you consider up until about 2 months ago, Charlotte was standing on her own two feet.
It just makes her look weak rather than heelish, which I guess was the intended idea. It just seemed too forced and they just wanted to get the screw job in the match, for the sake of doing so because Bret (who looked like he gave two shits about the match and wanted to be there) was in Natalya's corner.
I'd much rather they did like a double pin or something where it would have added some real controversy, rather than this dump they took on the newly christened Women's championship.
I'm not talking about the Montreal Screw Job. I can't understand why they would rehash that bullshit. This thread was about Charles Robinson and his past with Flair.
A clean finish in that match would've been preferable.
Re-hashing the Screwjob for the umpteenth time is not creative.
The sooner this shit ends the better.
