I have changed my opinion from the last hour or two and am coming around from everything I am hearing. Wow, okay. This is a set up to push Styles. They are making the move and it is being teased to hell and back. How wrong I was expecting the same shit.

Nah, they're booking AJ as a mid to upper card guy who is capable of hanging with the main eventers but not quite able to get over the line.

Personally thought he was fucking amazing tonight and looked like a star. He proved why he's one of the best in the world.

That PF through the table was as good as it gets and didn't look fake/forced, it looked legitimate in that the force was powerful enough to put Roman and himself through the table.

Hmm. If AJ ever wins the WWE WHC, then maybe he's in the mold of Y2J? Naw, more closer to Booker T, before WWF? After he wins the the main strap, there's several more names you can add to this list. But since AJ has been in so many top promotions and rose to the top everywhere, does he have a modern day comparison even?

AJ is NOT the new Daniel Bryan. He's not booked to be emotionally manipulative (strong choice of words I know) and he's booked with 100% confidence in himself. He's booked like an outsider who has a legacy outside of WWE but wants to take it to WWE. He's come here to take on the top new star of WWE.

Bryan was booked to take up a lot of screen time of getting screwed over via. dirty finishes again and again and again that was obviously leading to redemption. AJ won't go through that, he'll just be in and out of the title picture for a while and then get the belt with superstar power and not sympathy.

Don't really see the comparison.

Daniel Bryan built himself up with the fans to be a star in WWE where as AJ came into WWE already a global star in the business.

Your right there is no comparison. But not for that reason.

Daniel Bryan was built up by the fans from the Indy Circuit not the WWE. His whole shtick was give the guy a chance because he was the best "undiscovered" talent in the business. Not the best of all talent. He came into the WWE at the right time. The roster lacked a guy that wrestled specifically like him. Also helps that the guy invented/discovered a slogan in the midst of his teaming with Kane that put him over. Which had nothing to do with his good wrestling skills. This stuck tremendously with the fans, first as hugely annoying, yes annoying slogan to a celebratory chant. Pretty amazing feat none the less.

AJ Styles on the other hand is on a whole other level. No gimmicks. Pure talent. Global recognition. One of the best sellers in the business. The list goes on, & on.

He's not the new DB and he's not being booked that way. We all knew Reigns was going over but it was about how he went over and they made AJ look like a fucking star, he dominated large parts of the match which surprised me, I didn't think Reigns would squash AJ but I thought it'd be a pretty straight forward match but AJ proved why he is arguably the best in the world.

Zayn is the most likely to become the next Bryan, but i'd be surprised if anyone can truly recreate Bryan's appeal.

Styles isn't the lovable babyface that D-Bry was, he's more of a slightly more elevated version of Cesaro. He'll be a solid hand around the top of the card and might enjoy a world title reign somewhere down the line but i don't think he's ever going to be the underdog character that Bryan was.

Time will tell, but as of now AJ hasn't quite build an emotional connection with the fans to the level of Bryan, plus Bryan's growth came organically out of booking that was counter-constructive to his character. AJ has been booked to perfection thus far. I hate using the term "the next this" anyway because Bryan and AJ are different characters that carved their own unique paths. It will take a very special talent to stay consistantly over like Bryan did. For almost 2 years straight I can rarely remember a night where Bryan wasn't getting the strongest reaction -- notwithstanding a handful of the loudest pops I've heard since the Attitude Era

Think of it as filling a void. He has been a hero all over and is now in the WWE. Everyone in the know knows who he is and that he deserved this spot LONG ago. Samoa Joe is next and you can bank on it. I was drunk and hating last night after reading results, but now I am expecting some swerves. Which is always welcome.

Shane O'Mac is more like the 'new' Bryan than AJ Styles, there isn't much crowd or booking similarities between them and AJ in a short few months has got his natural ability over where Bryan never got that booking break. AJ was treated with alot more respect from Day One in comparison.

No hes the New Aj Styles. Pointless comparing him to other ppl. You end up boxing them. If Aj needs to succeed it needs to be based on his own credentials. Not because hes filling a void.

I'd never call the ''new version'' of someone, to a guy who started his career earlier and is older than said guy...
