The United States Championship After SummerSlam

So with Rollins' challenge of Title Vs. Title at Summerslam, I was thinking of exactly how it would work with both Rollins or Cena holding both the World Heavyweight & United States Championships.

Putting Rollins aside for a minute, I figured this would be a good scenario for Cena winning and what happens to the United States Championship after Summerslam.

Cena wins at Summerlam and now holds both Championships. On Raw he announces that he defended the United States Championship with pride and honour but feels he won't be able to do the championship justice whilst also holding the World Heavyweight Championship.

He then relinquishes the United States Championship and announces the U.S. Open Tournament where the winner will not only be crowned the new champion but will also receive a World Heavyweight Championship match against Cena in the future.

The tournament would mainly take place on Raw but the finals would take place (fittingly) at Night Of Champions. Cena stays busy by defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Rollins in his rematch.

Eight opening round matches, four quarter final matches, two semi finals and a final championship match.

Participants: Big Show, Bray Wyatt, Cesaro, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens, King Barrett, Luke Harper, Neville, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, Rusev, Seth Rollins, Sheamus, Stardust & The Miz

Rivalries can continue throughout, throwing Rollins in as a crafty way of possibly getting an additional shot against Cena alongside his Summerslam rematch.

Just a bit of fantasy booking, I think it would play out quite well. Thoughts?

I think Rollins will win and prove that he is a fighting champion by constantly defending the U.S. title and never defending the real belt.

Build the the midcard US title by beating EVERY credible mid-carder and then unify it with the WWE title... WTF is everyone talking about.... that doesnt make any sense.

They built the US title with so many good matches by so many talented wrestlers and now people suggest to just absorb that title into the WWE title and give it to Cena?...

Cena should lose the US title to a midcarder after he wins the WWE title. I dont care if its clean or not, but a guy like KO or Cesaro would really benefit with taking that title from Cena.

WTF was the point of bringing the credibility back to the midcard title if you were not going to use it?

I hope they don't unify them. I already miss the World Title and feel that WWE should've replaced it. With the size of the roster and the amount of airtime with both TV and the network having only two men's singles championships isn't enough. I hope they either keep the US Title or introduce a new championship to replace it if they unify it.

Forfeit. Isn't exactly a bad thing. Hogan vs. Warrior was billed as Title vs. Title and when Warrior won the World Title he had to relinquish the IC Title and Mr. Perfect won a tournament for the title. Lex Lugar in WCW won the World Title as the US Champion and Sting won the US Title Tournament. Goldberg was both World and US Champion and WCW went with a #1 contender for the World Title vs. #2 contender for the World Title to determine the new US Champion. I think WWE let D-Lo Brown and Kurt Angle have the European and IC Titles at the same time. Also, Shawn Michaels had the European and WWE Titles at the same but rarely defended the European Title. I actually could see a scenario where Rollins wins both belts issues a US Open challenge and it's answered by Kane and they pull a Triple H/HBK European Title scenario.

Here's what should happen:

Cena defeats in Rollins a classic, back and forth match. Sheamus comes out and cashes in successfully on Cena. This way they can continue the Cena/Rollins feud with the US Title and Sheamus can have a few months with the WWE Title. In that time they can continue to build up Cesaro to a possible championship match against Sheamus at the Survivor Series.

My guess: Rollins beats Cena, clean, and holds both championships (temporarily) until dropping the United States Championship to either Cesaro or Dean Ambrose.

Egon's guess: Double DQ, neither championship changes hands at Summerslam, a ladder match with both belts is set up for Night of Champions where the two titles will be UNIFIED!

Rollins wins it from Cena then loses it 1-3 weeks later on Raw, completely devaluing the prestige Cena brought to it over the past few months.

Actually it devalues the moment Rollins gets it, but it goes back into the gutter once he drops it that fast.

Whatever happens it's gonna be interesting, I just hope somehow Seth retains.

WWE like title changes at Summerslam so I'm reasonably certain Cena will win.

At NOC I'd like to see a 2 out of 3 falls triple threat match with Cesaro and Owens. First pinfall takes the U.S. Title, second takes the WWE title. Could have Cena lose both like Kurt Angle lost the European and IC titles without taking a pin if they want to protect him.

Very unlikely that will happen though.

My prediction is this.

Rollins wins both titles at Summerslam and then Triple H turns on him and lets Sheamus cash in and win the WWE WHC, Cena then continues to chase Sheamus for the WWE WHC (and wins the WWE WHC at NOC), leaving Rollins with the US title.

Triple H tries to force Rollins to drop the US title, by making him defend it via "open" challenges every week against increasingly harder opponents, then HHH announces that Rollins has to defend the US title at NOC against Kane (Probably Demon Kane).
