I was hoping Ryback would be more like himself upon returning from his surgery, but unfortunately WWE just turned him into another cookie cutter babyface, all smiles and no personality....sigh.
I think he's a decent power wrestler, and he has shown some charisma in the past, but winning the IC title wasn't the best move on WWE's part. I get that it's better than him having nothing to do at all, but me personally I'd rather of taken a pin there, than waste my career away on a terrible feud with Big Show, with Miz shoe horned in there.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on Ryback's current babyface character? You like him? You hate him, or are you indifferent? How would you book his IC title run?
I'd say Ryback's ability to speak and his charisma is vastly under rated by members of this forum, I bet back in 2012 no one would have suspected Ryback was as capable as he's shown he is in his second face run. Sure, Big Show, Ryback and Miz aren't exciting in the ring, but they've been performing admirably on their segments, it's actually great to see the IC belt getting some storyline/build rather than being an afterthought on the PPV card.
Promos are good, his character is okay, but I need more of Da Big Guy to shine through. He would be better be served by not being in a program with Show. Miz is perfectly fine, though.
Ikr? God, he pulled that gimmick off beautifully, he showed a hell of a lot of charisma imo too. The evil laugh, the way he would just slap the shit out of those poor guys in the back, his portrayal of a bully was spot on!
I liked him WAY more as a singles heel/bully gimmick. His "feed me more" chants are getting over, so it helps that the fans are actually into it for a change, but he's just not as interesting to me.
I like Ryback as a face and he works as a face. From a personal standpoint I would like to see a touch more of his heel "The Big Guy" Character worked into his face persona though.
I've been okay with his face run so far. Miz is a natural opponent for him, especially given their contrast in styles.
Ryback is what he is. He is not a tippy top guy. But he is fine as a fun guilty pleasure of sorts in the midcard/upper midcard and around the IC and US scenes.
I like Ryback, but not Big show (today. I liked Big show and feel he can have good matches, and he's excellent on the mic). I think after this feud it'll be easier to make an opinion on Ryback for most people.
I wouldn't say Ryback is the most entertaining yet, but he's been showing some promise IMO. I'm willing to keep watching him for awhile to see where they go with him.
He's okay, or serviceable. I don't hate him and at the same time he isn't the greatest thing on the show either. He's just doing a okay job with the IC title, not sure how he can make the title credible though
At least the Goldberg chants have died down now, thank god!
It works, I suppose. His first loss as a face and his heel turn couldn't of came at worse moments, so as far as moving up the card, the WWE have put an end to that.
He's doing well for his role and I think I'll leave it at that.
I hate him so much and I loved "Rybully". His best attribute is his character work and they sacrificed that for those annoying ass "feed me more" chants. And if this fucker gives one more Bo Dallas inspirational speech he's getting added to my must skip list.
I like Ryback, but his first reign as a champion in the company seems rather dull so far. I'm not sure why I should care that he's fighting The Big Show/Miz.
I've always believed that the IC holder should automatically be the #2 guy in the company. If not, he better be in the top 5. But Ryback, even though he's over, is presented as just another face. He's just there.
At least the crowd is behind him again and I don't mind his inspirational speeches. It gives him more of a character but I see how going full Bo Dallas annoys some. :lol
Fantastic. We've seen what he can do in terms of character work and cutting great promos and now we're seeing him consistently put on great matches. A fighting champion, a real wrestler's wrestler. I think the closest comparison I can make is Bret Hart in his prime.
So basically, most contributors agree that's it's sericeable good with a vocal minority chiming in. Sounds like Ryback's face run is pretty successful, especially since there is no such thing as a universally loved wrestler, heck even Daniel Bryan catches flack around here.
