I've certainly not been a supporter of the guy since The Shield broke up. But I have to give credit where credit is due. He cut a really solid promo tonight, and actually carried himself quite well. Reigns actually had me interested in a segment which included the freakin' Big Show. Anyone else think Roman was good tonight?
Yeah, I spent the last year criticizing Reigns, only to finally make a positive post just saying he actually cut a good promo. Therefore, I must be a WWE intern. :aj3
It was very solid. Que the full time haters coming to trash him once again. I used to be one, & I'm not proud of it either. But yeah, there's really no valid reason to shit on him anymore. If people can't let it go, then they honestly aren't worth a thought. People keep acting surprised, but I'm just like "what about I Can I Will Believe That do you not understand?" The dude already told you he would prove us all wrong. I see no reason not to believe him. He's been doing great at it lately. Not many people can wrestle a good match out of Big Slow, but he's been pretty successful this week. I'm actually excited for him.
The majority of the people on this website are inexplicably angry about something that seems to go beyond Reigns & wrestling. Some of the things people say about him makes me very concerned for their mental health.
'Not bad for a Reigns promo' is high praise from the geeks who spent the last year hating on him nonstop. Now if we can just get those corny ass 'make Reigns look strong' jokes to stop popping up in every thread this board might be halfway readable again.
Have yet to watch it but will probably report back on it later.
On that note, Reigns get a LOT of shit around here for his mic skills. He's not THAT bad as a lot of it is the material he's given. He could maybe brush up on the delivery but even that's not that bad. Obviously if Steve Austin talked about succotash and Jack and the beanstalk in '98 he would get shat on too I'm sure. Now if they let loose and told him to be himself and cut some heelish promos, then the man might hit the jackpot.
Holy fuck I was literally laughing how uncomfortable he looked and how every movement is scripted. Everything. You can see him fucking thinking out there. Big Show had the good promo nothing Reigns said made sense and his whole persona sucks. His "I was this close to beating brock, i had all the punches left etc...shit" sounds like a sore loser.

Was it good? Not by the standards of a main event talent in WWE however as everyone is pretty much agreed on at this point, that is not what Reigns is just yet.
I'd also add that i do not believe this was a heavily scripted promo at all. There is simply no way I'm buying that Reigns remembered that amount of dialogue when I've seen him stumble over his words when he only had to speak for 15 seconds.
I think this may have been WWE sending him out there to challenge him without giving him an entire script to read from.
Pure speculation on my behalf but it seemed an entirely different flow to a normal Reigns promo which is slowed down so he can remember everything. This seemed to be spoken in a much higher tempo and for the most part he didn't too badly as he actually spoke to the crowd directly which is something he doesn't do often.
He needs that heel turn though. I don't know how WWE can't see that if they can get him really over as a heel and keep developing his mic skills along the way that he really will have huge potential as a babyface.
Best way to do it.... Reigns wins MITB. The Authority are starting to get a little pissed with Rollins and Rollins/Lesnar rematch is slated for Summerslam when he returns. Reigns says he has unfinished business with them both and enters himself into the match.
Triple threat. Lesnar booked like a beast but Reigns/Rollins team up to eliminate form the match at some point. (A few big table spots or w/e will suffice)
It's down to Reigns/Rollins and they go back and forth. Here comes The Authority and HHH. They circle the ring and Rollins begins laughing until he realizes Reigns is doing the exact same thing. The Authority take care of Rollins and kick him out. Reigns wins and HHH/Stephanie hold his arm up in the air.
Summerslam concludes with a double turn and Reigns and Rollins are both freshened up and so is the whole show as a result of this.
Reigns has HHH/Stephanie as a mouthpiece and can also be more comfortable cutting his own promos while he's still learning as he'll never need to be out there alone with a stable around him.
If you want the belt on Reigns and I'm not saying i do but if i was WWE this is exactly what i would do.
Honestly, too much browsing the internet for backstage info, non-kayfabe interviews, dirt sheets and being on forums like this ruins the product for you
I agree. He's getting more comfortable on the mic and doing more things in the ring. I do hope they eventually take away all the Shield stuff too. The ear and music are now holding him back from realizing his full potential. He should carve out who "Roman Reigns" is outside of that persona.
The Big Show feud is doing him on favors. I'd love to see him in a feud with Harper/Rusev/Barrett/Sheamus. I'm hoping the WWE revisits the Bryan angle sometime this year as well.
It was awful. He had two long, unnatural pauses which seemed like instances where he forgot his lines. And live, he was speaking too softly at times so it was difficult to even understand him.
He went for a few cheap pops (Audience chanting for Show to retire and he eventually claims "I'll retire you") and has been given the green light to refrence non PG material for ooh's & aaah's. "You don't have any balls." "Bitch." Yada yada.
He's still stiff with his delivery and doesn't deliver some of his lines with confidence but he's also gaining confidence which is ultimately the only thing that will matter in the long run. I hope he continues to improve.
I have pretty much always been neutral towards Roman Reigns. I never have hated the guy, but never been a huge fan of his either. With that said, finally they're doing the right thing by slowing down his monster push and letting him develop in the ring, during promos and every thing else.
His promo tonight wasn't half bad, wasn't anything to write home about either. Compared to what he's done in the past, then yes, it was much better all around. His delivery has improved as has his confidence.
I just don't want them to make him overly cheesy towards the audience like they do Cena in regards to the heat that he receives.
He's got a long ways to go, but I think he's heading in the right direction.
I will say this though, he gets WAY more shit than he probably deserves, but what do I know?
It was fine. He tended to have an over reliance on swear words to try and get an audience reaction. OOOHHH, he said bitch...OOOHHH he said balls. That part didnt impress me at all.

I was most impressed with his pacing. At the start of the promo, he was getting 'what' chants and he managed to curb it with his pacing which is pretty impressive and shows some confidence and poise on the mic. There are plenty of superstars on the roster who can't.
It's hilarious how Reigns fans treat him like he's some mentally challenged and incompetent fool without even realizing it. You're praising this guy for every single subpar promo he gives as if it's some spectacular performance. You're treating this guy as a parent treats their children - complimenting them for the sake of complimenting, and not based on merit.
He may (probably will) become champion soon, but he will continue to be a miserable failure in every single area (promos, entertainment value, drawing power, etc.)

I agree. I think he should be out there cutting in ring promos more often and learning to feed off the audience. I think hes a lot better now. I was never one that had to see him in the main event right away. I just want to see the guy perform and have interesting story lines. If he has to take a step back to do so, then thats fine. I enjoyed the Reigns/Bigshow stuff tonight BUT I am completely over seeing these 2 wrestle. I never wanted to see it in the first place. Reigns wrestling Bigshow does nothing for him. I hope Extreme Rules is the last match but good job tonight with their segment. As a face i still think his promos should be more straight forward with the "im going to kick you ass" theme.
I think he definitely sounded more relaxed than usual. However I hated the very beginning of his segment where the crowd was booing and he had a smile on his face. It's certainly looking like Cena 2.0.
I hate the grinning too, not just at the booing but through a lot of the promo. i prefer a more rage filled pissed reigns(see sig). But he did seem more relaxed so i gave it a pass.
such bullshit. i would love to see how horrible the segment with jon stewart would have been if reigns did rollins role. reigns is pure shit on the mic. rollins is serviceable and occasionally pretty good.
OP is right. I think I've been Reigns biggest detractor and I'm not saying that I like him all of the sudden but this promo was much better and was a good sign. When he said Big Show was a big bitch it made me smile. I think he's called people a bitch before but when he's done it before it felt forced. It's amazing what a slight change in delivery can do.
P.S. The look on Big Show's face when the crowd was punking him was hilarious.
P.P.S. Reigns finally cuts a good promo and Cole just repeats Big Show's corny line about knocking Reigns down every time he gets up. Not that I like Cole repeating a promo that happened literally 1 minute before, but could he at least focus on any of the other parts? No, that cocksucker harps on the only shitty part of the promo: that motivational bullshit of getting back up after you get back down. Cole is a cocksucker through and through.
No it wasn't good. He is trying but that's the thing it feels like he is trying to be something he is not. I just find it baffling that a guy that has such good looks isn't comfortable enough to talk shit. He needs to go in on his opponents talking about how ugly they are and how they can't measure up to him as a man. He needs to be a bully. He needs to be like "I know I'm pretty" and "I'm going to beat your ugly ass". I mean didn't Reigns play football? All they do is talk shit and are braggadocious.

1st- This is the best looking he's ever been. Both he & his wife were a hot mess in college, but have now been replaced with ultra-attractive people.
2nd- He's had a lot of weight issues, & his balloon clothes just scream self-conscious & low self esteem.
3rd- He's painfully unaggressive. Anyone who's met him will tell you he's quiet, extremely nice, shy, humble, & essentially a large teddy bear. Not exactly the best receipe for a badass wrestler. Hence why he gets along with everyone personally, but not as his character.
Not everyone who plays football is an arrogant prick. Some of those guys are really nice.
It doesn't really matter how well you look. If you aren't arrogant, you aren't arrogant. He just isn't that guy. He isn't a bully, he isn't a prick, he isn't entitled. He's actually the opposite of all of those, so trying to come off as those is a hard move to execute.
We're going to get threads everytime Roman Reigns cuts lower midcard level promos? It's definitely a step up from his Jack and the Beanstalk shit though :lol
Promo was bad by normal standards but I can agree it's not the worst he's done. Not the best either, but by Reigns' standard it was good. I will say, at least he's not in the title feud anymore. I don't know why they put him with Big Show though, that's not going to do him any favors. The two have wrestled about a million times already this year alone, Reigns needs to be facing guys who can help him in building feud like Wyatt, Barrett, Miz, etc. while on the weekly shows facing guys who are great in the ring like Harper, Cesaro, Sheamus, etc. And he needs to not just have good matches, but actually learn from them so he can do the same with others.
TBH I think the main reason it didn't work is because the fans decided beforehand that they weren't going to let it work. They decided that they were going to be against Reigns before he'd even done anything and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy, his actual performances didn't matter because a lot of fans had already decided that they were going to shit on him regardless of what he did. They were never going to let him succeed, even if he was cutting GOAT promos and putting on weekly 5* matches it would've made no difference, they would've still found fault and ways to try and put him down. TBH I don't think it's really anything to do with Reigns, fans just wanted someone to hate and he became a scapegoat.
Preach! You hit it right on the head. People made up their minds a long time ago. I know I did. When I found out Reigns was getting a huge push, I refused to see any good in him. The ones still hating just love feeling like they're controlling something.
They keep calling this Cena 2.0 thing even though there is no evidence of it. A feud with Big Shit, a Rumble win, a win over Bryan, a loss to Rollins/Authority, a beating from Lesnar & a loss to Rollins at WM, & a loss to get the title challenge, & he is out of the title picture.
Oh look another RomanReigns thread. Man this guy is popular
