As seen Monday on Raw, the attempted reconciliation between The Bella Twins ended in tears as Nikki Bella verbally unleashed on her sister Brie. Nikki shrugged off Brie's apology as "the biggest load of crap she'd ever heard" before battering her across the ring, leaving her sister weeping in Jerry "The King" Lawler's arms.
Overall, WWE management liked Nikki's promo, according to a backstage source. They felt her delivery was an improvement from the week before, where she spoke too fast. She ad-libbed the line where she attacked male fans over having a stupid twin fantasy, saying they're "too fat and ugly" to even realize it. That improvised line went over well, but not where she told Brie, "I wish you died in the womb." She was chewed out backstage by more than one member of management for that.
Management liked Nikki throwing her shoes at Brie and her angst towards Lawler. Those were her own ideas and add to the feeling backstage that she's a natural heel. But the "I wish you died in the womb" line was a terrible mistake. It was unanimously seen as having gone too far in character.
Nikki is viewed as "the real star" of the two by company brass and significantly prefer her speaking in their segments. This is why Brie was relegated to awkward crying, while Nikki spoke the entire time.
Unfortunately for Brie, Nikki was so physical on her that she had to get iced up afterwards. In both the segment and the week before, Nikki and Brie intentionally worked stiff with one another since they want their feud to appear as realistic as possible -- they don't mind since their sisters.
Yes, the line was cold and heartless, but was a great line for putting Nikki way over as a hellish heel who has felt that she was held back by her sister all these years. I think that line was impromptu as well or she wouldn't have been bitched out for it.
The promo was awesome, one of the better ones I thought this year. Too bad they just turned Brie into a blubbering bowl of Jello. Speaking for myself, if my brother had ever used that "died in the womb" line on me, he would have gotten a beatdown like no one's business. They should have had Brie just launch herself and had a catfight Lawler would have creamed himself with enjoyment.
Good to know the higher ups also enjoyed the line where she buried the smarks. 'Twas impressive heelishness. Never have been and never will be a fan of the twins, but +1 to them for working stiff so as to further sell the intensity of the feud. bama
while i agree that womb line was a little to "dramatic" for my taste her overall performance was good enough not to mention when it comes to the beatdowns Nikki really lets you have it....i know everyone is going to say the Bellas have been here so long they should be pros yadda yadda by now but if you think about it how much times have they been in these kinds of positions? exactly ...so i don't mind a steady learning and improving after all you can only get better at something when you're constantly doing it
The promo was all fine and dandy all but what happens when it comes time for both Nikki and Brie to promote Total Divas huh what then? I swear that miserable, god forsaken company has to be ran by a bunch of fucking morons.
The entire storyline is beyond ridiculous to begin with anyway.
both bellas are fucking awful. I just wished they'd get the fuck off of my t.v.
the only way I will become a fan of the bella's is if nikki bella somehow convinces cena to marry her this way he gets the fuck off my t.v. and they can go live their life
And now we'll get to see similar promos and recaps of them every show, every week for a minimum of 3 months! Please subscribe to the network!
I don't care about this high school "mommy liked me better" drama crap, get it off my screen. Next.
No-one would have batted an eyelid over the "died in the womb" line years ago.
Anyone remember a promo between Steph and Freddie Blassie (who I think was in a wheelchair at the time), where she told him he was "going to die soon"?
I think Nikki gave a good promo. But I don't expect this feud to work and am betting the Bella's will make up in a month or two.
It isn't them, but fans tend to not like seeing real life siblings go at it. It took the Hardy Boyz forever to get a feud between each other over. They had to use the brand extension to seperate them to get Matt over as a heel in the first place. Fans just find it uncomfortable, and especially with Total Divas showing the genuine love and closeness it makes seeing them be so cruel to one another and beat down one another uncomfortable for some to watch.
Yes, fans know Nikki isn't really turning on her sister, but it can still make it hard for them. I think after NoC it will likely fizzle and the Bella's will either reconcile shortly after, or be kept apart.
I too thought the womb line added to the intensity of this feud. It was unexpected and for that made Nikki's exchange with her sister that much more personal. It cut deep with the audience. It'll go a long way with establishing Nikki as the strongest heel diva whilst also solidifying Brie's position as the top diva.
Kudos to Nikki for delivering the strongest diva promo in several years, definitely my favorite since the Piggy James segment with LayCool and Mickie.
Are we gonna get a report every week that management likes Nikki's promos?
Honestly, this feels like a case where people like her promos more because she's a heel. She has a lot more freedom than faces and that includes Brie, but tbh she's just as bad. Everything sounds forced from her, the womb line was :lol and she, along with Brie, are turning what on paper looked to be a good feud, into another awful storyline.
As much as Nikki tends to be horrid on the mic,I've always said if she could translate the Total Divas Nikki on RAW...she'd be a good heel...maybe on par with Maryse..(MAYBE!!).
Her bitchfaces and the way she thinks she is better than everyone could make her a decent heel.
The funniest part are the Bella haters who goto these shows will end up giving Nikki the biggest reaction trying to prove a point and boo her..and she'll probably be in more segments, and it helps that she is the best looking diva on the roster.
Nikki is fine on the mic. People react to her and that's all that matters. Brie is not as good, but a little better in the ring. I think Nikki would really excel in the role Eve used to have where all she does is be eye candy and talk for The Authority. Brie strikes me as somebody who should continue to be associated with DB. It wont hurt Bryan because Bryan is at the point where he's so universally loved/over, having his wife along wont damage any of his credibility.
I think having this storyline at prominent time slots in the show has really hurt its perception among people online, and that's fair because it does not belong there in any capacity. However, if this storyline was given time in the middle of the hour or in a slot between two important matches, then I think its reception would be a little more positive. Each brings a little positive, and they should continue to work towards their roles. Brie seems like she'd make a good opponent for Paige/AJ down the line and Nikki throwing her weight around (maybe throw Cena in the mix?) seems fine to me.
The Womb line was okay, but the way she said it was exceedingly awful. She said it so canned and just...bad.... I wish I had a better word to describe it, but I think bad sums it up.
Of course they liked it. Nikkie Bella is with John Cena.
