Rewatched both in the last week and i have to say 19 was definitely better.17 is really overrated because of TLC and Rock/Austin.

Four great matches that are at the ★★★3/4-★★★★ range for me. There's also a fun APA Invitational Bar Room Brawl and a solid match between Ultimo Dragon and Chris Kanyon on the pre-show. Even the Vince McMahon vs Zack Gowen and Stephanie McMahon vs Sable matches weren't as bad as I expected it to be. They were terrible from an in-ring perspective but still watchable.

With WrestleMania 19, I only found three matches from that show to be great with everything else being average/bad.
I freakin loved the Guerrero vs Benoit and Triple Threat match. The Tag match was also a great match. I didn't really enjoy Taker vs Cena though.

I consider WM 19 to be the best PPV of all time, never mind best WM . Would have at least 2 PPV's over WM 17 too (non WM events).

Re: WrestleMania 19: The greatest WrestleMania of all time? (long read)

Mania 19 is probably the 3rd best Mania in my eyes behind Mania 17 at 1st and Mania 24 which is a Mania that A LOT of people seem to underrate. As a whole I feel Mania 17 not only had the overall better matches but told the better story match to match. The only thing Mania 19 takes the cake in is probably pure wrestling.

Both PPVs has its weak points though. I don't get how the OP can say the handicap match at Mania 19 was any good, Was one of Takers worst Mania matches in years. Booker/Haitch Also wasn't amazing. Wasn't bad either though then off course you had the miller lite catfight. Obviously 17 had the Gimmick battle royal but then was that ever supposed to be anything more than just Nostaligia? The 6 man tag served its purpose to get the Texas crowd pumped and so the women's title match was probably the one match that really under delivered when you consider the story going into that match.

In terms of the undercard

Mania 17: Hardcore triple threat, Regal/Jericho, Angle/Benoit, Ivory/Chyna, 6 man tag, Battle Royal and Eddie/Test

Mania 19: Hardy/Mysterio, Tag triple threat, divas triple threat, Handicap

Yeah I'd give the edge to 17

In terms of upper and main event side of things

Mania 17: HHH/Taker, TLC II, Shane/Vince and Rock/Austin

Mania 19: HHH/Booker, Austin/Rock, Hogan/Vince, Jericho/HBK, Angle/Lesnar

Honestly I'd say 19 possibly has the slight advantage with Haitch/Booker bringing it down.

Throw in atmosphere, build, importance in going forward and crowd involving I'd say 17 has to take the cake

In his prime Lesnar was easily the best pro wrestler in the business.

And that match was anything but filler. Unfortunately, circumstances stopped Booker from getting anywhere at that point, but at the time they had pretty big plans for him.

I love Lesnar to bits and always have but I'd defo say Benoit and Michaels as worst were above him. He defo is better than Jericho though

Agreed with OP. WM XIX is my favourite too.

Everybody saying 19 was better than 17 must have not seen it live and watched via Youtube or something.

Only watchable matches from 19 that have any reply value is Jericho/Michaels and Rock/Austin 3. Rest was meh.

At the end of the day, IMO 17 had two 5 star matches and a 4 star. Don't see that at 19 TBH.

I can't for the life of me understand how anyone can say that Jericho/Michaels and Rock/Austin were the only "watchable" matches. What exactly do you think makes a match great? Blood?

Neither match I named had blood in it tho.

How did you even come to that conclusion?

Brock vs Angle was a better match than Rock vs Austin 3 & the triple threat divas match was pretty awesome too.

Wrestlemania 17 was still better than 19 though.

None of the matches on 19 compare to Rock/Austin or TLC II at WM17.
