Summerslam Buyrate - Lowest Since 1997

Quote:
186,000 domestic (U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico)

112,000 international

For a comparison, in the domestic market, SummerSlam was in the same ballpark as Jose Aldo vs. The Korean Zombie two weeks earlier. It is not the lowest historically for the show in North America.
http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-t...am-ppv-numbers

298,000 buys in total. 2012 did 358,000 with Lesnar/HHH and Cena/Punk/Show, and 2011 did 311,000 with Cena/Punk. Going by Observer statistics on past buyrates, this would be the least bought Summerslam since 1997.

Late buys may boost the number slightly, but this is a pretty shocking number - I thought the build for Cena/Bryan and Punk/Lesnar was good, and thought the PPV itself more than delivered.

Thoughts on why the buyrate is so low? Has Lesnar's novelty wore out? Did fans not buy Bryan as a legitimate contender to Cena? Something else?

"Well sir, I guess there's just a meanness in this world..."

Making Punk/Brock the second biggest match next to Bryan/Cena might be the reason.

Not a good start business wise for the future of DB'S push.

This doesn't surprise me, I doubt many people expected Bryan to win.

That doesn't take away from the PPV itself though. Summerslam was still a damn good PPV event.

Re: Summerslam Buyrate - Lowest Since 1997

Even though Cena vs Bryan main evented, the main draw was Lesnar vs Punk. In retrospect we see that the Bryan push was serious because he beat Cena 100% clean but at the time, how could one be sure that Bryan wasn't just another challenger for Cena to overcome? Lesnar is a good draw even if he's lost some of his appeal since they killed his aura with the losses but he obviously needs a big name to work with him for the numbers to deliver. Punk is clearly not on that level and if it wasn't already obvious, it's clear that he can't draw.

The main attraction WAS Bryan/Cena, they were the ones on the poster, their match had the biggest build on the entire card and also had HHH as a referee. Plus they main evented. Sorry, this isn't on Punk this time.

GG, Bryan isn't good for business! HHH isn't good either!

I will laugh my ass off when NOC statistics come out. I predict just 50000 buys because of Orton and Bryan. People even wanted refunds after the finish!
