Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship Match)

Daniel Bryan won the WWE Title at SummerSlam and again at Night of Champions, but can “The Beard” prove his powerful detractors wrong and make it three in a row when he takes on the chosen “face of WWE,” Randy Orton, at WWE Battleground for the vacant WWE Championship?

The high-stakes bout, set for Oct. 6 on pay-per-view, was announced by WWE COO Triple H during a WWE.com exclusive interview with Michael Cole.

Neither Superstar will head into the contest with the champion’s advantage, thanks to The Game's order on the Sept. 16 Raw to vacate the WWE Title. Triple H stripped Bryan of the championship in response to a fast count administered by now-dismissed referee Scott Armstrong during the Bryan-Orton title match at Night of Champions. While the WWE COO did not rule out collusion — an accusation seemingly substantiated by Armstrong’s admission of guilt — Bryan steadfastly denies any wrongdoing.

Regardless of that controversy, all eyes are now set on the first-ever WWE Battleground event on Sunday, Oct. 6, and its high-profile WWE Championship Match. What began as a rivalry based merely in mutual disdain has escalated over the past month into an all-out war that may determine the direction of WWE, both as sports-entertainment and as a business, for years to come.

Bryan has the unambiguous support of the WWE Universe and much of the locker room, though he lacks the endorsement of Triple H, who has twice orchestrated the dethroning of “The Beard” as WWE Champion. The WWE’s “Yes!” Man, however, is nothing if not relentless, and, Bryan appears determined to make the championship gold his again, once and for all.

The ever-dangerous Viper, intent on reestablishing himself as WWE’s Apex Predator, has ratcheted up the cruelty since his loss at Night of Champions. On the Raw the night after, Orton methodically decimated The Miz in The Awesome One’s hometown of Cleveland, causing what doctors have described as an upper thoracic injury.

Will Orton’s rediscovered mean streak overwhelm the spirit of the WWE Universe’s favorite underdog, Bryan?

To see how this world-caliber encounter shakes out, be sure to watch the inaugural WWE Battleground, live on pay-per-view Sunday, Oct. 6, at 8 ET/5 PT.

Re: Should Orton go over Bryan clean at Battleground?

Why is everyone pinning blame on DB for the buy rate? Didn't Cena main even too? Why don't we blame Cena for a boring title reign number 10?

Nobody should be blamed in the first place. But nobody would blame Cena, because Cena's name alone is money. He has that kinda star power at this point, but it could only drag so far at this point as well.

Re: Should Orton go over Bryan clean at Battleground?

http://www.cagesideseats.com/2013/9...am-2013-pay-per-view-buys-down-from-last-year

As released by WWE in its monthly business report, the show did roughly 298,000 buys breaking down to 186,000 domestic (North America) and 112,000 international. Here's how that compares to the past five years:

SummerSlam 2012: 358,000 buys (Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar)
SummerSlam 2011: 296,000 buys (John Cena vs. CM Punk)
SummerSlam 2010: 350,000 buys (Team WWE vs. Nexus)
SummerSlam 2009: 369,000 buys (CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy)
SummerSlam 2008: 470,000 buys (Undertaker vs. Edge)
Where did you get the "lowest in 16 years" figure from?

Re: Should Orton go over Bryan clean at Battleground?

He should go over, but not clean. Orton should win with help from The Shield, or Triple H or something. Orton should of retained the title at Summerslam with help from The Corporation, Bryan absolutely didn't need to win the title that quickly again - and if he won it after a few months of chasing the title it would of meant much more, but now Daniel Bryan is known as one of the worst WWE Champions in history with his two reigns only lasting a day combined.

Ideal stipulation for the Battleground main event?

What do you think it should be to generate more interest. Honestly, after two championship matches without stipulations, and a declining interest in the actual main event, I'm pretty sure the WWE are considering some sort of stipulation for the match. What do you think it ought to be to both generate a greater interest for the PPV and be the best way to continue the story forward.

I would personally like to see an Iron man match. Though not sure if Orton/Bryan have enough chemistry (or create enough drama) to make it last that long and keep the interest of the casual fan.

Re: Spoiler - Main Event For BattleGround PPV Determined

so i probably expect Brie Bella to be in the corner of Daniel Bryan in this match huh? or for her to get involved at the very ending of this match to determine who walks away from Buffalo the new champion as she did getting herself involved on Raw tonight?

Was thinking the same thing or at least come down at the very end and perhaps cost Bryan the WWE Championship and throw in the towel for him or something of that nature just so he won't win it just yet I dunno why.

Maybe they decide to play another toss up and have them double pin each other to cause more controversy.

there is till SD tapings and the pre-show.

On the last two pre-shows Brock vs Punk & Punk vs Axel & Heyman ended up being NO DQ

It only makes sense for Bryan to win, because with Mr. McMahon's return looming on Monday, I see a situation where Triple H and Steph are about to strip Bryan of the titl again, only for Vince to show up and stop them.
