Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship Match)

Daniel Bryan won the WWE Title at SummerSlam and again at Night of Champions, but can “The Beard” prove his powerful detractors wrong and make it three in a row when he takes on the chosen “face of WWE,” Randy Orton, at WWE Battleground for the vacant WWE Championship?

The high-stakes bout, set for Oct. 6 on pay-per-view, was announced by WWE COO Triple H during a WWE.com exclusive interview with Michael Cole.

Neither Superstar will head into the contest with the champion’s advantage, thanks to The Game's order on the Sept. 16 Raw to vacate the WWE Title. Triple H stripped Bryan of the championship in response to a fast count administered by now-dismissed referee Scott Armstrong during the Bryan-Orton title match at Night of Champions. While the WWE COO did not rule out collusion — an accusation seemingly substantiated by Armstrong’s admission of guilt — Bryan steadfastly denies any wrongdoing.

Regardless of that controversy, all eyes are now set on the first-ever WWE Battleground event on Sunday, Oct. 6, and its high-profile WWE Championship Match. What began as a rivalry based merely in mutual disdain has escalated over the past month into an all-out war that may determine the direction of WWE, both as sports-entertainment and as a business, for years to come.

Bryan has the unambiguous support of the WWE Universe and much of the locker room, though he lacks the endorsement of Triple H, who has twice orchestrated the dethroning of “The Beard” as WWE Champion. The WWE’s “Yes!” Man, however, is nothing if not relentless, and, Bryan appears determined to make the championship gold his again, once and for all.

The ever-dangerous Viper, intent on reestablishing himself as WWE’s Apex Predator, has ratcheted up the cruelty since his loss at Night of Champions. On the Raw the night after, Orton methodically decimated The Miz in The Awesome One’s hometown of Cleveland, causing what doctors have described as an upper thoracic injury.

Will Orton’s rediscovered mean streak overwhelm the spirit of the WWE Universe’s favorite underdog, Bryan?

To see how this world-caliber encounter shakes out, be sure to watch the inaugural WWE Battleground, live on pay-per-view Sunday, Oct. 6, at 8 ET/5 PT.

So much for the tournament idea. At least that would have been a way to explain Bryan getting another title shot... by earning it. Are we supposed to just believe now that Hunter thinks Bryan is bad for business but keeps booking him in the title picture regardless or what?

Not really. They could overkill it and have BG and HIAC end with indecisive finishes. Then the return of this:

My gut feeling tells me that Randy Orton will win in a very controversial fashion but unlike Daniel Bryan, Triple H will not strip Orton of the title. Your thoughts?
you can be on to something here. Otherwise Bryan wins again and HHH gets mad at Orton for not cutting and goes for Bryan himself.

I think Orton will win, possibly due to questionable refereeing and HHH will allow him to keep the belt. He will hold the title through Survivor Series where the main event will be Team 'Best For Business' (Orton, Shield, HHH?) against the Anti-corporation team (Daniel Bryan, Big Show, Christian, Miz, Ziggler).
Orton to retain until the Rumble, DB to defeat him and hold the title until WM.

Then no doubt Cena will return, win the rumble by hoisting 29 guys on his shoulders and hitting the AA over the top rope, go on to Mania for a Summerslam rematch against DB and OVER COME THE ODDS!

Hard to say what they will do. If Orton wins, Triple H doesnt need to give Bryan a new title shot. My money is on a screwy finish that doesnt determine a winner.

But the next PPV is Hell In A Cell, so would make sense that they end the whole Orton/Bryan with that.

However, how is the title scene gonna look like at Survivor Series and TLC? Right now nobody is even close to the WWE Title picture.

No idea how this is gonna end, but Bryan winning would be stupid and end the storyline prematurely so I doubt that will happen.

I thought perhaps they could have done a multi man match or something with Orton winning it by beating someone other than Bryan. Bryan really doesn't need to win it yet. They need to continue the route of somehow keeping the title off him

They need to put on a way better match than at NoC to make it watchable.
Completely agree. It's wasn't a terrible match by any means, but for a Main Event match it needs to be a lot better. Plus the ending just didn't feel right.

On today's Bryan and Vinny show on F4WOnline, Alvarez claims they are thinking about making this an Iron Man Match, with the idea that you could end with a tie and milk it to Hell In A Cell.
They are gonna battle anyways at hell in a cell but I hope the iron match happens we havent seen one i a while

If they want the storyline to have any life left past that PPV, it should end how NoC should've... Orton winning dirty. They can have Shield ambush Bryan backstage early on the show to the point it's almost a doubt that he makes it to the main event but he still does and fights to the very end until Orton exploits some limb injury caused by the backstage attack which ultimately leads to Orton winning.

Either Orton walks out with the title and keeps it for a few months or Daniel Bryan wins it controversially and gets another very short 3rd "reign" as WWE Champion.

I would be happy with an Iron Man Match. I don't really see it happening but I really do believe that Bryan is the best wrestler in the world right now (and I feel like I know enough about wrestling outside and inside WWE to support that) and I won't complain about letting the best wrestler have a long match.

I'll be at the even so I am a little nervous about it. I've only seen 1 hour long match before and it really wasn't very good (Seth Rollins, Tyler Black at the time vs. Austin Aries at an ROH show). There's a story here that would allow for a lot to happen during that time span that would make it interesting and I would imagine a pretty amazing comeback from Bryan.

I just hope they ad something to it because I don't want this PPV to be the exact same thing s the last one.
