How would you have booked WrestleMania 18?

A discussion in another thread about which WM matches shouldn't have main evented got me thinking about this. One of the first the came to mind was WM 18. Y2J vs. Triple H should not have headlined. I love Y2J but during that time he just didn't belong headlining WM. Especially when you had Hogan vs. The Rock on the same card. I started thinking how I would have booked WM back then.

I would have had Triple H win the Royal Rumble like he did. I would have had Austin beat Y2J for the title at No Way Out and set up Austin vs. Triple H for the title at WM. Hall and Nash would have wrestled together that year. Nash didn't even have a match and Hall vs. Austin was decent but shouldn't have happened at WM. I would have had The Outsiders vs. APA. It makes sense too because around the time that McMahon announced the nWo was coming to the WWE, the APA walked up to Flair and cut a promo on them and said they weren't going to let the nWo do to the WWE what they did to WCW.

Actual card:
Triple H vs. Chris Jericho
Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock
Undertaker vs. Ric Flair
Jazz vs. Trish Stratus vs. Lita
The Dudleys vs. The Hardy Boyz vs. APA vs. Billy & Chuck
RVD vs. William Regal
Kane vs. Kurt Angle
DDP vs. Christian
Hardcore match
Booker T vs. Edge
Scott Hall vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

My card:

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. Triple H

"Hollywood" Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock

Undertaker vs. Ric Flair

The Outsiders vs. APA

William Regal vs. Kurt Angle

Big Show vs. Kane

Edge vs. Christian

RVD vs. Chris Jericho

Booker T vs. DDP

Hardcore match

Your card is way better. It's strange we never got Austin/HHH at Mania or Rock/HHH.

Austin wanted no part of putting HHH over like that.

Exactly. That was likely the problem. I think I remember a story about Vince not being happy about Austin not wanting to stay heel back then. I think the plan may have been for a babyface Triple H to go over a heel Austin at WM18 but that's just speculation on my part based on things I've heard over the years.

Rock vs Hogan and Taker vs Flair were both awesome. No need to change either match.

I'd say Austin could have used a better opponent than Scott Hall despite Scott Hall's amazing job selling the stone cold stunner. I could watch Hall sell that move all day.

Re: How would you have booked WrestleMania 18?

Triple H vs The Rock(Finally this is one Wrestlemania), Undisputed Championship

Hollywood Hogan vs Stone Cold(Really, Rock and Hogan had no history or relevancy, Hogan and Austin were both boom period main faces, The Rock became the main guy when WCW was basically over in 1999-2001)

Scott Hall(With Kevin Nash) vs Kurt Angle

Undertaker vs Ric Flair

Trish Stratus Vs Lita Vs Jazz Womens Championship

that's all I can think of.

Re: How would you have booked WrestleMania 18?

I would have headlined with either Rock vs. Hogan or Austin vs. Jericho - Not Triple H. I would have booked Triple H with Shawn in his corner vs. Scott Hall with Nash in his corner - battle of the Kliq.

I like the idea of Edge vs. Christian, I'll go with that.
I would have booked Kurt Angle vs. Curt Hennig. It would have become an instant classic.
I would scrap Maven vs. Goldust, make it Goldust vs. Kane & I'll go with Diamond Dallas vs. Booker T.

Trust Me

Austin refused to work with Hogan because of backstage stuff in WCW.

Ultimately people got a better match with Rock too. Hogan being cheered and spontaneously going babyface is better than anything than Austin Hogan could have produced.

Re: How would you have booked WrestleMania 18?

This show was such a mess. I'd have to rebook the previous few months. Jericho never would have been Undisputed Champ. A bunch of other stuff would have changed. So something like this....

WWF Title Match Kurt Angle (c) vs. HHH- HHH wins to cap off his comeback.
The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan- Rock wins and the crowd boos Hogan out of the building in this fantasy world.
Steve Austin vs. Kane- Just because I needed an opponent for Austin. "Stone Cold" goes over, of course.
Undertaker vs. Ric Flair- This ruled, so I wouldn't change it.
Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Jericho- RVD wins the battle of up-and-comers.
TLC VIII- APA vs. Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz- Why mess with a winning formula? Hardyz win this one.
IC Title- Edge beats Christian to finally end their feud.
Booker T over Mr. Perfect- Give the "young" up-and-comer a WM win over a respected veteran.
European Title-DDP over Scott Hall w/Kevin Nash- I was digging DDP at the time so I'll give him a win over a guy I hadn't cared about in ages.
