Re: Which Wrestlemania Matches Should Not Have Been the Main Event?
Wrestlemania 2 = Yeah yeah, Hogan Vs. Bundy happened before there was any kind of real standard for Wrestlemania main events, and I have nothing against Bundy, and yes the first (and only) Steel Cage match in Mania history is significant, but I still think they could have done something bigger than just feeding another big guy to Hogan. Maybe this should have been the final Hogan Vs. Piper confrontation. I have also always wondered what it would have been like if they did Hogan Vs. Bruno. Now that would have been interesting.
Wrestlemania VIII = The only justification for Hogan/Sid closing was the return of The Ultimate Warrior, which was admittedly a huge shock and closed the show with a huge bang. But, Flair/Savage should have closed. The big title change also felt special and would have made a more suitable closer.
Wrestlemania IX = That ending with Hogan stealing the title was horseshit. Again, there was one justification for it in my mind and that was a Hogan/Bret Title match down the road, but it never happened, so fuck it.
Wrestlemania XI = You know, a lot of people say LT Vs. Bam Bam had no business closing, but honestly, HBK Vs. Diesel wasn't that great either. And the title didn't even change hands anyway, so it wasn't like the fans were deprived of a huge moment to close the show with. I don't know what to say about this one. This whole show was just fucked from square one.
Wrestlemania 13 = Sort of like Wrestlemania XI, this whole show was fucked, so I could say that Sid/Taker shouldn't have closed and that the I Quit Match was far more powerful to end on, but that would have been hard to justify since Austin wasn't a main eventer megastar yet. But it was the only thing on the show that wasn't lame bullshit, so what the hell does one do in that situation?
Wrestlemania 2000 = The 4 Way shouldn't have been a 4 way at all. It should have been The Rock Vs. HHH all along with Rock winning the title. The 4 way with HHH retaining felt like a B PPV ending and not worthy of the huge price tag this show had.
Wrestlemania X-8 = Hogan Vs. Rock should have closed. I say it. Almost everybody says it. Not just because it was the bigger match and the match that the event was sold on, but because nobody gave two shits about HHH Vs. Jericho with that awful storyline.
Wrestlemania 22 = Fuck Cena Vs. HHH. Edge should have been in the main event this year. Him Vs. Cena, Vs. RVD, Vs. HHH, Vs. HHH Vs. Cena in a 3 way, Vs. all three in a 4 way, I don't give a fuck. Edge should have been the constant.
Wrestlemania 23 = Undertaker defeating Batista and winning the title was a much bigger deal than Cena winning AGAIN, so yeah, I would have liked that match to close.
Wrestlemania XXV = Nobody gave two shits about HHH Vs. Orton. HBK Vs. Taker should have closed because, well, fuck it, nothing else was going to follow it.
Wrestlemania XXVII = Jesus H Christ, this is another one where it was like "What on Earth do you close with?" because not a whole lot really warranted it. Edge Vs. Del Rio? No. Punk Vs. Orton? I liked the match & feud, but no. I guess Cole Vs. Lawler deserved it the most based on its build up...but it is fucking Cole Vs. Lawler and it was the worst fucking thing to ever grace a Wrestlemania ring. I don't know why a match between two announcers was more built up than anything else and I'll never be able to understand it. I guess HHH Vs. Taker should have closed. I don't fucking know. The real main event, Cena Vs. Miz, was just a prelude to The Rock, so nothing else really mattered. I guess Rock's presence was the only factor that made this match worthy of main eventing, but even that was a stretch. Miz had already been relegated to background character by this point anyway. Again, who the fuck knows?
Wrestlemania XXIX = Nobody wanted to see Rock Vs. Cena II. Seriously. It wasn't a bad match overall, but nobody truly cared. They could have done Cena Vs. Rock Vs. CM Punk as champion in a 3 Way.
